Question of the Day: Who Does the Cooking in Your Household?

I plan the meals, then my girlfriend and I take turns cooking for each other - sometimes it's a collaboration.

Question of the Day: Popeye's or Kentucky Fried?

Love the Red Beans & Rice. Sometimes just get a large w/ biscuit. Gotta ask for a bunch of hot sauce packets. Think they cook all or most of it up in a building on Airline Highway in New Orleans. Spicy chicken sandwich is also good, though not every branch offers it.

to clarify, I like QDoba becuase it has beer. But I just remembered they don't have pork, so that's a point for Chipotle. Anna's and Boca Grande in Boston are better than both, especially the latter.

And Boston food sucks compared to New York in every other way.

You can get good tacos al bastor 4 hours north of NYC at Boca Grande in Boston. Hard to believe, I know....but it's absolutely true.

Chipotle and Qdoba both suck the meat missile. And, yes, I eat at both of them...because we have little choice. I like Qdoba better.

Chipotle's taking its share of hits here. The Taco Bell comparison just above is off-base, because Chipotle, even if their idea of a burrito is all wrong, uses far better base ingredients than Taco Bell. #2, it sounds like one can't like Chipotle even a little without being told that you're all wrong, or that you're just like he was before he went out west, etc.. Nonsense. I've been out west. They're better there. But Chipotle's not horrible. Chipotle often leaves me feeling lousy afterwards, and the My Space generation completely oversaturates my hometown branch, but it'll sate a craving, which is more than one can say for alot of places. Again, think about actually leaving some ingredients OUT of your burrito - you will enjoy it more. Cheers

Question of the Day: Who Does the Cooking in Your Household?

Mostly me, as my boyfriend works longer hours than I do and has a longer commute. He would much rather do the cooking though--I'm not much of a cook (pasta with things thrown in it, some fish, I'm kind of boring), but I love having the house to myself in the early evening to bake. Dessert is a much bigger event most evenings.

Question of the Day: Who Does the Cooking in Your Household?

While we both like to cook, my husband does most of the cooking. Which I am OK with because he is a better cook than me :)

Question of the Day: Who Does the Cooking in Your Household?

I am the one who likes to cook in my family. Because so, I usually have to clean up too, that way I have a good chance of finding the cleaned utensil again. My husband refers to the kitchen as 'that yellow room', because he can't manage to make anything other than ramen or frozen pizza (unless it involves a grill).

Question of the Day: Who Does the Cooking in Your Household?

Right now I'm handling 95% of the cooking, but that's only because my wife is dealing with a squirmy one-month-old. Prior to that we split the duties pretty evenly. I love to cook, but I have a penchant for more high-fat fare than my wife, who cooks wonderful vegetarian Indian food. As my waistline expands I realize that I miss the regular doses of veg in my diet.

Sorry BaHa -- I'm adept at making big messes so I need to reserve Ed's strength for our kitchen.

Question of the Day: Who Does the Cooking in Your Household?

i do all the cooking, my boyfriend all the cleaning. unless i've cut my finger chopping something, then he is nice enough to take over... he also comes in handy when it is time for mashing potatoes or stirring things!

Question of the Day: Who Does the Cooking in Your Household?

I'm a freelancer who works at home, so I generally do the weeknight planning, shopping, and cooking. Once I start chopping that garlic, all the aggravations of the day evaporate. On the weekend, Bruce often takes over--makes great soup, particularly. If I'm working on a huge project, Clinton Street Frankie's steps in!
I generally do most of the dishes, simply because it is easier than redoing them...Acme, can I borrow Ed?

Question of the Day: Who Does the Cooking in Your Household?

My relationship is a match made in heaven. I LOVE to plan, shop for, and produce all of the big messes in the kitchen. Ed actually gets excited to clean it all up. He feels that there is something exciting about turning a large sticky pile of dirty dishes into a sparkling stack of clean ones. I personally think he needs therapy, but I wouldn't have the arrangement any other way.

I usually do--then I get out of most of the cleaning up.

Question of the Day: Popeye's or Kentucky Fried?

Popeye's because it is spicy and extra crispy. Bring on the spice.

Oh, yeah...we used to have Church's in Atlanta...How about Mrs. Winner's for another blast from the past? I never liked the chicken from there.

From Talk

Question of the Day: Popeye's or Kentucky Fried?

technically popeye's serves a better chicken, but i always lean towards the coronel--he's a charmer. i suppose i'm more of an army girl than navy. i've had plenty of divine moments with kfc popcorn chicken, and more than once i've gotten into lengthy conversations with friends regarding our secret love of the biscuit.

Question of the Day: Popeye's or Kentucky Fried?

Gustoct: Isn't that Church's at 36th and Eighth one of those White Castle–Church's? There's one of those in downtown Brooklyn, too. My love of White Castle, however, has kept me from ever ordering from the Church's side of the counter.

From Talk

Question of the Day: Popeye's or Kentucky Fried?

I haven't eaten at a Church's in a long time and I note that they now even have a spicy option. I hate to be obsessive about this (but I do love fried chicken!), but I have discovered that there is one Church's in Manhattan at 8th and 36th. Since there are several Popeye's in Manhattan, the nearest to Church's being on 34th near 8th, this looks like an assignment for Ed. Tell us, oh great one!

From Talk

Question of the Day: Popeye's or Kentucky Fried?

From Wikipedia:
Church's became the second-largest chicken restaurant chain in 1989, when it merged with Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits. The company continued to operate both restaurants as separate chains. Church's was owned by AFC Enterprises, along with Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits and Cinnabon through the end of 2004, when it was sold to Arcapita (formerly Crescent Capital Investments). Because Arcapita is an Islamic venture capital firm, bacon was removed from the menu after the sale (pork not being halal). Hala Moddelmog was appointed as president of Church's Chicken in 1996, making her the first female president of a fast-food restaurant. Church's Chicken began its corporate partnership with the Children's Miracle Network in the summer of 2004.

From Talk

Question of the Day: Popeye's or Kentucky Fried?

Church's is/was right behind Popeye's -- first rate, but didn't offer the spicy option. I believe that at one point Popeye's bought them. I don't know who owns them now.

From Talk

Question of the Day: Popeye's or Kentucky Fried?

What about Church's? Are those still around? My grandmother used to make homemade fried chicken that was to die for (lit'rally--no wonder my Dad has heart disease)... but if she was going to eat store-bought fried chicken, Church's was the ONLY place she'd take us.

From Talk

Question of the Day: Popeye's or Kentucky Fried?

Not even close. Popeye's is crisper, juicier, better flavored, less institutional and probably as good as chain chicken (or most volume-produced chicken, for that matter) gets. You have to go to a real specialty restaurant (like Stroud's in Kansas City or Gus's outside Memphis) to do much better. KFC is okay, but no better, and the traditional recipe is pretty greasy. The pieces are also smaller.
