Real chicken and waffles near Harrisburg, PA
I live near Harrisburg, PA, and am looking for good choices in the Hbg, York, Lancaster area for Dutch-style chicken and waffles. The Hamilton Restaurant in Carlisle used to put out a great plate, but the last time I was there it had degenerated badly. I've stumbled across decent versions near Paradise, and to the west, beyond Chambersburg. Knoebels Amusement Resort is good, at their Alamo Restaurant, and I can't remember which diner near Doylestown (?) had the best I've ever found. I'd like a regular menu item, not an occasional special. Help?
Someone may make a great waffle, and/or transcendental fried chicken, but placing them together on one plate does not constitute culinary invention. True chicken and waffles is a Pennsylvania Dutch treat, with the waffle smothered with stewed chicken, pulled off the bone and a good, rich gravy, or cream sauce.
