Cleveland: If Michael Symon Weren't Already a Celebrity, B Spot Would Make Him a Star

You also neglected to mention the sauces! I love the coffee bbq sauce, but the shasha spicy sauce is also terrific.

I *did* eat it as a kid...and I never stopped!

Cheese puffs-- you know, the ones with the texture of styrofoam, coated with white "cheese" powder? They're great because you can eat a bag in one sitting.

Also, out of the processed-food realm, I often eat my egg & toast the way Mom made it for me when I was very young: egg over-easy on top of toast in a bowl, pre-cut into bite-size pieces and mixed such that every bite of toast has some yolk exposure. Tastes just as good even when you have to cut it up yourself. ;)

Cook the Book: 'Tender: A Cook and His Vegetable Patch'

I have garlic that I planted in the fall plus arugula, carrots, peas, heirloom tomatoes, hot peppers, basil, lettuce, and Brussels sprouts that I started from seed. As with drunkenchef, more herbs on the way! It has been way too rainy the past few weeks (in Ohio) to accomplish much outdoors, but I had a sunny and productive weekend. :)

Weekend Giveaway: 'The Food Matters Cookbook'

CSA and growing our own vegetables. We don't eat out often, but when we do, we are fortunate to have a lot of local restaurants who put some effort into sourcing their ingredients locally.

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Truffle Lovers Pasta

I've had potatoes with truffle oil, but never anything with straight up truffles.

Making Cannoli From Scratch

In my experience, cannoli are a fun "project" recipe-- you need a good chunk of time from start to finish, mostly because you can only fry so many shells at once, and between the dough rolling, cutting, and frying, there's a lot of clean-up. Definitely call in for help on this, it's much more fun with helpers.

Got Leftover Bagels? Turn Them Into French Toast

In Cleveland, OH: Bialy's Bagels. Excellent Italian-grandmother-style pizza in Little Italy (Mama Santa's, Valentino's) and (I hear) also at Geraci's on the East Side. Plenty of good food to help forget about the professional sports issues!

Cook the Book: 'In the Kitchen with A Good Appetite'

Cook the Book: 'Canal House Cooking Volume 4: Farm Markets & Gardens'

I've been going to the West Side Market (which is year-round) and Shaker Square Market (a traditional farmer's market) in Cleveland-- although to be honest I haven't visited either of them frequently thanks to my CSA and my own garden. Winter is going to be a sad, sad time for me. :(

From Recipes

David Lebovitz's Polenta Cake with Olive Oil and Rosemary

I followed the recipe to a T and the cake is quite tasty! The polenta gives it an interesting texture. I'm eating it with strawberries on the side, which is a pretty good combo.

'Slice' Poll: Pineapple Pizza - Way or No Way?

I like it. The strong reactions here are interesting, but I guess that's what happens when you take a food with so much tradition around it and do something drastic like switch out the toppings. Obviously everyone on Serious Eats loves their food; it's just that some love it in very specific configurations and others are more willing to break the "rules." :)

Cook the Book: 'The Vegetarian Option'

When it's cold out, I love pan-fried polenta. Of course it's warm now, and so my current favorite veggie option is a cucumber-cream cheese-alfalfa sprout sandwich for lunch.

How to Poach an Egg

I had been meaning for a while to add "poached egg" to my repertoire, and tried it for the first time just a couple of days ago-- inspired by this photo of Ruhlman's breakfast. It wasn't pretty, as I forgot the vinegar trick and let the whites get all over the place... but hey, they were fantastic over sauteed spinach.

Video: 'The Delicious Miss Dahl' on BBC2 with Sophie Dahl

I love the dramatic music that is playing as the omelette is pulled out of the oven and plated. And I do like the subway tile in the kitchen. What can I say, I'm not a cooking show person.

Poll: Are You Joining a CSA This Year?

I am joining Fresh Fork Market, a CSA in Cleveland that sources multiple farms for veggies, fruit, meat, and dairy products (it works like a CSA in that it is a subscription for a share in a collection of local farms, not just one). It's my first year as a member, but I did some a la carte ordering from them last summer and was really impressed with the food & their business model.

Sfogliatelle in the Bronx's Little Italy

Thanks for the reassuring post. I thought I was unlucky when I tried a sfogliatelle from a bakery in my local Little Italy (not NYC) and was horribly let down. It's amazing how something that looks so tasty can be so disappointing!
