I like to listen to Van Morrison when I cook. Both activities seem spiritual and connected for some reason. I agree though that silence when baking is essential. Concentrate.
Serious Green: Planting a Container Garden
With the right equipment and technique you can easily grow veg and herbs in containers. While I have a good size yard and flower garden I also have deer. Instead I have planted peas, zuchini, mesclun, peppers, chard, spinach and others on my 200 square foot deck. I use homemade SIPS (Sub Irrigated Planters) and a fantastic system called an EarthBox with great success. Next up are potatoes, watermelon and onions.

I have been a lifelong visitor to Madison and have enjoyed good pub food at The Dane. The beer is pretty good too. Near the original location lies a few treasures not to be missed. The Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings around the capital square is the best in the Midwest, period. Have a good burger at TGD but walk down the hill and across the street to one of the great beer halls in the country, The Essen Haus, for a special German beer on tap. Usually 8-10 hard to find option await. Another great burger awaits at Dotty Dumplings about 10 blocks away. So much in Madison. Couldn't begin to scratch the surface.
