Where Do You Get Your Favorite Burger?

My best place to go for the really best is what I make cuz I really heap on all the goodies I like. But otherwise in my hometown, Ocean Springs, MS I like to go to the Beau Rivage Casino where the burger is made to your liking(while you wait) with lots of toppings. Along with that, being it is a buffet type, you can pick up sides galore and really enjoy.

Cook the Book: 'My New Orleans'

New Orleans may have their beignets but we have fantastic shrimp po-boys to gobble up here in our local eateries in Mississippi. Being Lent is just another reason to get a po-boy.

Fried Catfish is a given here in Southern MS.

Cook the Book: Bobby Flay's Grill It!

I would pick Michael Ciurello mainly cuz I like the way he puts a menu together. His is good cooking.

Cook the Book: 'Sweety Pies'

My Mom made mince meat pie every Thanksgiving and some of the folks really like it. It is memorable as I always went the other way towards her apple pie which to me was the greatest any day of the year. It usually was piled high with apples under such a light and airy crust. Naturally I had to have a slick of AMERICAN CHEESE to go along with it.

Serious Sandwiches: Johnnie's Combo Beef, Chicago

There is nothing better than a Chicago Italian beef sandwich. I will be heading to Chicago in a few weeks but to the South Suburbs. So, the only place I found a good Italian beef was in Tinley Park. This time I will pick up the sandwiches so I can see what else is on the menu. For now I will take a good beef sandwich with dippin' on the side.

Ellen would be my pick to dine with. Being she is from New Orleans, I feel southern food would strike her fancy. I feel sure conversation would not be an issue as she does a talk show and is talented as a comedian. Being we both are from the south sure helps.

Cook the Book: The Cornbread Gospels

Living in the South cornbread is a staple of any meal. I keep trying different recipes and enjoying each one. So far I like the one by Chef John of Food Wishes. Good eating for sure.

Cook the Book: 'Chocolate Holidays'

Brownies with a scoop of decadent chocolate ice cream with hot fudge chocolate syrup over the top. Everything is o.k. then.

Cook the Book: 'Techniques of Healthy Cooking'

Baked chicken breast, previously marinated with italian dressing, brown rice with mushrooms, garlic and onions, stir-fry veggies. I do believe I could live on the first two items and vary the veggies.

From Serious Eats

Cook the Book: 'The Vegetable Dishes I Can't Live Without'

Stir fry vegetables which usually has zucchini, carrots, onions and green beans. I like to have this as a side with baked chicken as well as other meats. So good!

Looking forward to making Martha's holiday fruit cake but leaving without the nuts. Should be just as good.

I like her hints on baking a ham and making it more tasteful. I usually only get a small canned ham but it still needs some dressing up just like the big boys.

Bagels, bagels and more bagels with cream cheese. We don't have anything this good on the Gulf Coast.

2 Eggs... Meat... toast... juice.. hot bev

Scrambled eggs with mushrooms and cheese. Bacon fried really crisp. Side order of crispy hash browns with onions. Southern biscuits with jelly. Freshly squeezed orange juice and slice of melon. No coffee. Just make a second helping available. I only get this when traveling. BooHoo!

I wish there was a ______ in my neighborhood....

A good bakery that makes good danish rolls and coffee cakes. I have lived here in the south for many years and all you can get is french bread and raised donuts. Imagine? I go crazy in Chicago with bakeries all over with anything you want.

From Serious Eats

Cook the Book: 'The Young Man and the Sea'

Pan-fried southern catfish filets. Properly seasoned and breaded with cornmeal/bread crumbs makes this a real taste pleaser. I drive to a small place in Pascagoula, MS for this meal as it is truly worth it.

From Recipes

Cook the Book: 'Donuts, An American Passion'

Tato-Nuts in Ocean Springs, MS has the best donuts I have ever had. Don't even try to compare to Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts or any others. It is a small one-owner shop but does a heck of a business. Get there early or just forget for another day.
