Super Bowl Giveaway: 10-Pound Box of Pat LaFrieda Sliders
On Sunday, I will be Skype-ing during halftime with my twin sons, who are away at college. We are rabid Pats fans in this household, so my husband and singleton son will be yelling up a storm. Menu to be determined, but will probably include some type of chicken wings.

SE Staff Picks: Favorite Way to Eat Thanksgiving Leftovers?
Mashed potatoes, mashed turnips (technically rutabagas), stuffing and gravy smooshed into a fat pancake, cooked up in skillet. Oh, in butter. Pumpkin pie and apple crisp with a large dollop of whipped cream.
How many do you have, and what spices can you not be without?

Weekend Book Giveaway: 'Roadfood'
My stepmom insists on "proper meals" when I visit, so after I wave goodbye as I motor down the road, I like to make a quick yet oh so necessary stop at the Red Rooster Drive In in Brewster, NY for a cheeseburger and a vanilla soft serve cone. Happiness.
Cook's Illustrated: Yea or Nay?
I, too, read CI at the library and check out the cookbooks. I then photocopy recipes that interest me. It's the old school approach, but it works for me.
Spot of Tea: Taylors of Harrogate Yorkshire Gold
Yummy and fortifying. I just had a cup with milk and a bit of sugar. I think I'll have another. I get it at the local Stop & Shop.
The pantry of no return...
Just found last week, some very ancient cocoa powder, cream of tartar and a puddle of spilled molasses.
Food Trend you wish would fade away?
Spinach, goat cheese, honey and the heinous combination of all three. As in the salad that my cousin brings to every party. Also, cocktails made with beer. And Paula Dean.
Velveeta, I mean really, what's in it?
Velveeta saved my life. Twenty years ago during a trip to Cancun, my husband and I booked a day trip to the ruins of Chichen Itza. We were to travel by bus and stop at a restaurant along the way for lunch. I had the forethought to go to a grocery store and buy some non-perishable food for the day. I purchased canned peaches, crackers and a small block of Velveeta. Well, needless to say it was HOT and steamy. The lunch stop was at a forlorn little place, carved out of the jungle, where the busload of sweaty, hungry travelers were offered a choice of chicken or fish. My husband and I chose the chicken. We were seated with a view of the kitchen, where the plates of food were laid out on counters and flies were buzzing around. We did not eat the food and watched as our fellow travelers devoured theirs (and ours as it turned out). We stuck to our Velveeta, enjoyed our tour and did not get sick on the bus ride back to Cancun. A good half of bus was quite sick indeed. Thank you Velveeta for saving our trip from disaster.
Mega Millions - If I'd won, I'd celebrate by...
Immediately, fly to Hawaii for 2 week vacation in rented ocean view house- Kauai or Maui will do. Eat lots of tropical fruit and plan next move. Claim money and disappear to Paris, where I will eat my way through the city. Then, contact real estate agent in New York, find amazing apartment, decorate and furnish and make reservations at many restaurants. Plan and execute month long vacation to Australia. Ditto Italy. Ditto Japan and Bali.
Christmas Eve
As the only Christian in a household of Jews, I celebrate Christmas quietly and make whatever pleases me. This year, before I head out to Christmas Eve services, I will feast on roasted chicken and potatoes, sauteed spinach and winter fruit salad (apples, pears, coconut, walnuts and dried cranberries). Oh, and a nice pot of Darjeeling.
Clean out the fridge concoctions
My just consumed lunch of brown rice, chopped cooked spinach, tamari, a bit of butter and grated parmesan cheese. Oh, and a nubbin of orphaned cheddar.
STUFFING: TO CRUNCH, OR NOT TO CRUNCH?
You want crunch, eat some potato chips. Moist all the way.
What did you have for lunch today?
Pita stuffed with organic greens, chopped tomato and red cabbage with hummus and tahini sauce
