At the ball park in Houston, TX in the 1960s everyone got a free drink or snow cone after the game. Everyone ordered a SUICIDE which was every drink on the fountain plus shots of snow cone juice.

I know this is an older posting but I had to respond. When I was a kid in the early seventies in Arkansas we called it a Suicide. We had a snack shack set up at school that the FBLA kids worked in and they sold drinks and snacks during recess. MMMM those were the days.

Mud and Graveyard are both new to me. I am another midwesterner who grew up with 'suicides'. My 13 y/o son will occasionally create one when given the chance. They typically come out various shades of greens and browns so I totally understand why some would call it 'swampwater'. I agree with 'j', they are nasty.

Another Midwesterner ... definitely suicides! We used to make suicide floats, too - a mix of at least three different pops thrown in with a couple scoops of ice cream.
Also, the convenience store in college where we all got giant 32 oz pops for 50 cents would post drink concoctions from other customers all over the walls to inspire you.

Midwest here...it was always called Suicide at the local swimming pool...Swamp Water was what we called the "mixture" in the bottom of the cart holding racks for dirty glasses at the first restaurant I worked in. Talk about Suicide! Beer, wine, soda, juice, fruit bits, milk, coffee...emptying that bucket was the worst sidework..if you drew that one, you had no other responsibilities for the night!

The MetaFilter thread had tons of Swamp Waters on there, so it must be regional and have some strong support from Canadians and elsewhere. (I grew up in the Midwest and first heard it there.) I'm surprised the PC police haven't fazed out "Suicide" by now.
For all the talk about it, I have to say, it's not a very good drink.
