The first time I had something close to authentic barbecued pork spareribs. It was like someone flipped a switch labeled "Go forth and buy smokers and grills."

Probably due to the fact that I don't eat out for lunch, my sandwich experience is fairly limited. But at home I still sometimes have to go with a peanut butter and banana sandwich for lunch. On the supper side of things, we also make a damn good -- but as inauthentic as possible -- slow-cooker Italian beef sandwich.

Ribeye still tends to be my favorite.

Breakfast at the Thorpedo in Thorp, WI, or custard at pretty much any stand in the Green Bay or Milwaukee area (Zesty's in the former and Pop's in the latter being family favorites).

And if you want a *really* outstate choice, Jake's Pizza in Roseau (believe it or not, they used to be a chain and a relative still exists in Green Bay, WI) is the best you'll find in that corner of the state.

CSA for veggies and meats, and a garden in the summer, but there's only so far a person in the upper midwest can take that sort of thing.

Wrapped around asparagus or just plain.
