What's for dinner?
My mom and I always have Cobb salad when my dad is out for dinner, creating our own version with whatever is in season and in the fridge (plus the bacon, blue cheese and hard-boiled eggs)!

In college my friends and I always made party punch for "special occasions." It's pretty foolproof; although I can't remember the exact quantites, experimenting to find the right combo is part of the fun!
Cheap "Champagne" (we loved Cooks but would use Totts in a pinch)
Pineapple Juice (one big can to about two bottles of champagne)
Frozen Raspberries (add as many as you want to make it look pretty - usually a bag is good for a batch or two)
Pineapple Sherbert, if desired (although I've been known to make it with whatever flavor the store had - or none at all if we forgot to buy it!)
Happy Birthday!
I love to slice them thinly (like you would a scallion) and throw them into a spring salad. They are also delicious in salad dressings, marinades, or other sauces like that.
I love to nosh on apricot hamentaschen!
Anything that involves scalded, simmered or heated milk. I always turn my head at exactly the wrong moment and the whole pot boils over, coating my burners and countertop - sometimes even the floor.
Fritos with Helluva Good Onion Dip. I can't look myself in the mirror for days afterwards - thankfully, I only buckle about once a year (twice if it's a really rough year)!
Finally! Mine arrived last night - rosemary, olive oil and salt!
sixsonnets - sorry i got to this a bit late, but have a happy birthday anyways.
So if you feel like the party should go on... here's my version of a retro punch - my friend's Aniette's Bull.

thanks so much everyone! think I am probably going to go with annaliseree's punch - love the rum option. You guys are the best! I know it is going to be a great birthday thanks to you all.
Couldn't you take any drink that was popular and just fill a punch bowl? Like GumbeauxGal's Harvey Wallbanger. Other popular drinks (from memory, so I'll miss quite a few) were Rob Roy, Whiskey Sours, Rum & Coke, 7&7's, Tom Collins, White Russians, Black Russians, Screwdriver, Fuzzy Navel, Martini, Manhattan. I didn't drink, so I'm probably missing a ton. Perhaps you could lessen the cost by adding more soda/juice and less booze?
A pint of ice cream! (I can't believe no one else has said that..... :-(
Otherwise...eggs or creative grilled cheese.....using whatever bread, cheese, veggies or fruit I have on hand.
In my Navy days, there was a punch popular in the Philippines called "mojo". The, um, "social hostesses" in the bars got the recipe after WW2, when US troops brought "bug juice" with them.
I can't even find the recipe online, but I know it had fruit punch, ginger ale or club soda, pieces of fruit, and liberal (I mean left-wing) amounts of rum, vodka and brandy. It could really sneak up on you if you let it.
@sadiepix
Serious she does that?!?! THAT is classic. I love it!
@annaliserie
Might have to throw that into my me and my hubby's summer of 100 cocktails. We decided this year - probably under a drunken stupor - that we would have 1 different cocktail every day starting on the solstice.
Needless to say I will be posting closer to June for recipes...
;-)
@PerkyMac - Thank you and I do understand why you disagreed. I'd probably take heart if someone made a Katrina cocktail. I have learned a valuable lesson that I should think twice before posting things, too.
Luv ya, too!
@sixsonnets, have a happy birthday!
@GumbeauxGal..........no apology necessary. I read your reasoning. I just strongly disagreed and felt the need to say so. I even slept on it first. Like I said, I DO luv ya! Anyway........
This is about a party and I didn't mean to put a damper to it. Let's celebrate and come up with some retro punch recipes for sixsonnets.
@PerkyMac - As I said earlier, no one at my party had any ties to it, or we would not have done it. Sorry that I offended and stunned you.
My husband is always home, so I am never alone. However, I do cook for myself every once in a while. When I'm hungry, I just make enough for myself. Or if I am not in the mood for what he's made for dinner, I'll prep my own thing since I'm too lazy to go out and get some pho alone and fight for a close parking space on the street when I get back.
Like Markbb, I make ramen (Myojo chukazanmai only) with shrimp, mustard cabbage or spinach, kamaboko, Spam, sriracha, and a raw, unbeaten yolk on top. Their soup bases usually have sesame oil in them, so that's taken care of.
There are times when I'm just in the mood for cereal. So cereal and milk.
Beef jerky.
It's not a great dinner idea, but that's just me. :D
