Great Tips on Choosing Rotisserie Chicken

this is a great article - and it makes me want my favorite rotisserie in the DC area - crisp n juicy.

From Recipes

Dinner Tonight: Roasted Shallot and Dijon Vinaigrette

I made this last night - tasty! my shallot didn't get very brown though, even after 45 minutes.

From Recipes

Dinner Tonight: Ricotta and Spinach Gnocchi

I finished these in the butter in the oven with parmesan and served it with tomato sauce. SO good.

It's also easier when you roll the dough into a "snake" and pinch off the ends to toss in.

pliant at the edges, crispy in the middle. and absolutely not from a turkey.

Sunday Night Soups: French Onion

love the title. (re-mix!) didn't get the pork stock made, I figured a little browned pancetta would add a nice porky bent to this. I threw a few other stock bits in, going to leave t overnight and see how it does. thanks for posting!

Dinner Tonight: Pez De Tierra (Eggplant Fries)

this looks delish. would salting (and rinsing) the eggplant first be recommended for this, to get out some of the bitterness? I do that for eggplant parm...

they're fraps in Boston. Way confusing.

How do you flavor your popcorn?

my housemates and I used to make three bowls for a taste-off: butter & sea salt, butter and nutritional yeast, olive oil, garlic salt and parm. we're all winners in that battle.

What's the weirdest thing you've ever put on the grill?

brie? frisee? (not together) And the banana/chocolate thing is a TOTAL camp counselor trick. Try it with caramel bits too.

Best Fried Chicken in Boston?

for my money, it's Bob The Chef's (aka Bob's Southern Bistro) because it comes with slammin' jazz music and 2 sides. And also is delicious. I have nothing against Popeye's, but...that's like saying the best mexican in Sacramento is Taco Bell. C'mon.

Dinner Tonight: Ricotta and Spinach Gnocchi

When I bought my SILVER SPOON and found this recipe I was delighted becasue it had the spinach gnocchi recipe I had lost. (Oddly enough, I first made the recipe when Rosita Missoni gave it to W magazine back in the days when it was a newspaper-sized publication, say, late 70s early 80s). Her suggested finish (and I made them this way) was to put the POACHED (never throw delicate morsels like these into boiling water!) gnocchi in a casserole, top with melted butter and chopped fresh sage, and bake until all were heated through again. I prefer them to potato gnocchi. Much lighter. Yum ...

Great Tips on Choosing Rotisserie Chicken

I am a Costco chix fan. I make chicken salad, quesadillas, pasta salad with chicken, and sesame chicken salad wraps. It is all good and those chickens are very good. Price went up recently to 5.99 (up a dollar) but they still are good and cheap for chix.

Great Tips on Choosing Rotisserie Chicken

My local D'Agostinos makes excellent rotisserie chicken - very juicy and tasty. I agree, you have to go when it's peak shopping times - they'll have every row of the oven filled up with birds and they can't cook it fast enough for the customers waiting on line at the deli counter to snap them up as soon as the timer goes off and the ladies take them off the rods and pack them in the containers. I notice during non-peak hours there might be just 2 or 3 dried looking birds spinning around. They make really good Italian and Spanish spiced ones also. And with my Dag points I can get a whole cooked chicken that will last at least two meals for less than 5 bucks!
