Serious Eats City Guide: Washington, D.C.

Colorado Kitchen has been shut down since 6/08. For me, the best brunch is a tie between Tabard Inn (made-to-order cinnamon sugar donuts) and Blue Duck Tavern.

How could any D.C. restaurant list omit both of Michel Richard's gems? Central and Citronelle are must-eats in D.C.! And for gelato, Pitango in Logan Circle is also now a must. I agree with most of the other ones on this list though, yum. And Good Stuff Eatery is delish too, I almost forgot! Get a mini-moo sized milkshake, you'll be glad you did.

I'd say Good Stuff Eatery deserves an honorable mention for Best Burger.

Annother favorite of mine is Dino's in Cleveland Park. Really delicious, authentic italian food, and a wine list that is 40 pages long.

The last time I was in DC a few friends and I went to Black Salt for dinner and it was one of the best dining experiences of my life. Pricey...especially on a student budget but worth the splurge.

I'm vexed to find that Sette Osteria still has not made this list. It's one of the best pizza makers in town (though their restaurant is not pizza focused). Sette - R and Conn. Ave, NW.

Happy to see that neighbors of mine made the list with Big Bear. I've been patronizing this local spot for a minute or two - also try the grilled cheese - yum...

Shout out to Baked and Wired. TDF - enuf' said!

For those custard fans - hit The Dairy Godmother in Del Ray Alexandria, VA. Those who already know - know. Those who don't - should. A couple of friends use the moniker FOTD (pronounced pho-ta-da) which stands for the Flavor of the Day. Interesting flavors like Mozambique on graham crackers will leave you in bliss...

Agree with Best Late Night Eats- Amsterdam Falafel, and Best Sushi- Sushi Ko.

I agree with mitomaid about Tabard Inn for Brunch, and Blue Duck has a fabulous dinner as well.

However, I think Meskerem in Adams Morgan is far better quality than Etete on U St. They've consistently won the Best Ethiopian title from countless critics for the past ten years.

Bravo for including 2Amys and Charlie Palmer Steak on the list -- two of my favorite places in the city.

I am not a fan of Coment Ping Pong for pizza. The tomato sauce tastes like ketchup (I'm sure it's not) and it is over priced and loud in there. However, it is on the fringe of a residential neighborhood and is kid friendly, so that's why it is doing so well.

2Amy's, Pizzeria Paradiso and RedRocks in Columbia Heights are the places to go.

Love 2 Amys. Can't say enough about them. I've never made it early enough on the weekends for their donuts though!

What abour Restaurant Eve? I think that's a great restaurant worth the splurge!

I'll have to try the other best places that were listed though.

My DC friends absolutely love Palena and have eaten both in the bar and in the regular dining room. But their reaction was different when they went to Comet Ping Pong for pizza (it's close to their home and I recommended it based on lots of on-line raves).

They were both seriously underwhelmed by the quality and also startled by the high prices (relative to what pizza typically costs even in a good place). Did they just hit it on a bad night?

i also love marvelous market on connecticut ave re: bakeries. haven't been in a WHILE, but they used to have seriously the best brownies on the planet, the super fudgy kind.

and about best affordable tapas? jaleo all the way.

my family's go-to brunch is parkway deli in silver spring. lines out the door, but worth it without a doubt (and it helps to flatter the lovely waitresses, heh)

Thanks for this list. I'm heading to D.C. in November so I'm looking forward to checking some of these spots out. It's especially vital to know what the best pizza places are - there's nothing worse than bad pizza!
