i would have an onigiri filled with ikura, some wakame salad, and little cupcake wrapper filled with blueberries. then something sweet, like a sliver of pandan cake!
I really like Whole Foods' options of coffee; I get it grinded there then stick it in the freezer, and use my little french press. I just choose whatever variety, depending on price. I prefer making my own coffee in the morning - it tastes way better, I never have to use sugar, and I save a boatload of money.
Tampapo, of course! I'm a total ramen and Japanese culture/history nut. It was the perfect blend of food worship and embodied a lot of the hardworking Japanese ethic of reaching absolute perfection which was very reflective of the time period.
Also, I loved the little scene where Tampapo's son goes into the fancy restaurant with the well-dined bums and make omu-rice.... total whimsy.

I have a small Lodge cast iron that seems pretty messed up... as you can see in this picture (http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ma5r0j89e41qztp5po1_500.jpg)
it is rather patch and such. I'm not sure how to proceed- I've tried scrubbing it but there was already "patches" of the cast iron that refused to be seasoned even after several attempts. There are also scratches on the side... please advise!

Hi everyone,
So I just graduated college early and am moving into my first apt. I wanted to know any recommendations for high quality basic cookware set I can ask for Christmas - pans, sauce pans, stock pot, etc. It'll be a combo bday/xmas gift so I guess it can sort of pricey, but not too pricey, if you know what I mean. Figure I'd ask the serious eaters first!
