The Way of the Lentil

My favorite recipe for making lentil soup is easy. Take one cup of lentil & soak it in water for 2 to 3 hours. In a slow cooker take 4 cups water, one 8 oz can of tomato sauce, one 8 oz. packet of frozen chopped spinach ,add one small chopped onion, two cloves garlic & one small ginger root . Cook for 3-4 hours till it is completely cooked. Add salt & pepper to taste.

Ten Turkey Tips You'll Be Thankful For

Last year I made a Turkey Osso Buco stlye. Number one my turkey was 40+ lbs cleaned. It was 55 lbs before it was cleaned. I don't have an oven that could possibly handle that, so I carved him and made good stock while braising vegetables, added marzano tomato giblets, neck and dark meat only in parts to 2 large roasting pans and cooked for quite a few hours.
when it was pull off the bone tender I made gravey with the sauce in the pan and reduced it to thicken and used an electric wisk to mash in the vegetables.
the breast were done on the grill.

it was awsome.

Dinner Tonight: Curried Sautéed Cauliflower

This curried cauliflower was fantastic! I used slightly more than tbsp of store-bought Jamaican Hot Curry powder, and it was just the right amount of spice. I placed the lid on it to help it steam, as mentioned above, but not before getting a nice little char on the veggies. Plus, I made it last night just to have it for lunch, so the "leftovers" were kick-a**. Thanks for the recipe!

Dinner Tonight: Curried Sautéed Cauliflower

This was delicious. Seemed like it would be too dry to cook with such a small amount of oil, but it ended up browning perfectly and the onions almost carmelized. I put a lid on at the end to steam it just a bit, so the cauliflower would be cooked a little more. Can't wait for the leftovers!

Good simple tips. With all of the hustle and bustle of this food season, we either need a quick pointer or have become so obsessed with the perfect meal that we would spend countless hours on research. I always prefer the former. Thanks for the info,

The Best Roast Chicken Recipe? Who Wants to Try It With Me?

This is not the best roast chicken recipe. For years now I have made Nigella Lawson's Roast Chicken; over time I have added my own variations to it (herbs, etc.) but the basic principles remain - lemon, butter, olive oil and salt & pepper; the lemon tenderizes and keeps the chicken moist during cooking without overpowering the chicken. The recipe can be found in "How to Eat: Pleasures and Principles of Good Food" (1999)

Girl Scouts Think You’re Chubs

Girl Scout Troops receive more than .25. The norm is .50 per box goes to the troop and they have opportunities for making more. Then another $2.00 or more goes to the Council and this money goes into creating great opportunities for the girls. There are camps and program and more depending on the area. Be assured when you purchase Girl Scout Cookies 80% goes toward Girl Scout activities. Of course a donation is always appreciated. My daughter has sold cookies for 8 years and she has learned so much from the activity. Of course SHE sold the cookies, Girls do not learn too much if parents sell and deliver them. Remember they are great from the freezer in the middle of Summer.

Did you know that the $3.50 box of cookies you buy to help support the Girl Scouts only gives 25 cents to the Girl Scouts? (As of 3/1/2004)Hopefully, you are ordering the cookies for your own craving (as I do) and not for the notion that you are helping the local chapter. I personally order 1 box of trefoils and 1 box of thin mints then give the girls a $5 donation. They deserve to receive more of the profit for all the selling they do.

Samoas are worth their weight in gold to me. I'll buy one box, and eat two cookies a day (with a cup of tea) until they're gone. This seems to work for me. But god help the individual who thinks they can "share" my samoas.

Franny's (a phenomenal pizza restaurant on Flatbush Ave near Park Slope) has a curry cauliflower appetizer that is probably similar to yours. The cauliflower turns brown and nearly cripsy... definitely more than a tad of oil there.

Hottest New Accessory: Raw Meat

First, I think these pieces are interesting. Not necessarily something I would own, but definately something I can appreciate and might go to see more of.

Now, put fur on all of these pieces, or change them from raw meat to leather, and the comments would probably be more like : "Wow! Where can I get that necklace!"

Guaranteed.

From Serious Eats

Hottest New Accessory: Raw Meat

Offensive..this site is about good food, good memories and camaraderie..skip the controversial.

From Serious Eats

Hottest New Accessory: Raw Meat

Why is this offensive? We buy meat, we eat it, and we are somehow totally horrified when we are reinded that it comes from animals. That died.
