Also doing Siena Farms. We have loved the produce they bring to the Copley Farmer's Market, so wanted to help them with their capital needs for the growing season.

Gadgets: The Universal, Hold-All-Your-Knives-And-Utensils Block by Kapoosh

I have a file box (about 4" wide by about 12" long and 10" tall) filled with rice -- it holds about a dozen knives of all sizes and shapes and the rice absorbs any water that might be left on the blades after washing and drying.

Negative Associations Ruining Your Food?

Interesting how a single incident of being sick will put you off of something forever: for me it is strawberry milk. Had a strawberry milkshake before the first time I went up in an airplane without my parents -- I was 12 -- and lost it somewhere over Ohio. Even now my kids (19 and 24) know enough to not even be in the same room if they are drinking it. The smell!!!

Do You Have a Favorite Brand of Butter?

Kate's butter from Maine. I used to always get Kerrygold for bread-spreading, but I like to get the local stuff when I can.

The Milk in Pumpkin Pie Debate

Evaporated milk. Crosby's molasses. And One-Pie brand pumpkin from Maine. (There was a massive crop failure with the one-pie growers, so I grabbed last year's cans as soon as I heard--it is impossible to find now.)

Cook the Book: 'Gourmet Today'

Vegetarian Epicure. I kept it until it fell apart (it always opened to the page for German Apple Pancake, which was one of my favorite Sunday morning breakfasts).

Eating Alone (In Restaurants)

Hello,
I travel a fair amount for work and so eat solo quite a bit. I also carry a book, but do not always read it. I find that going into smaller places and talking to the host and the wait staff is helpful. "What do you do well? What is your favorite thing to eat?" I have had many great meals of small plates.

Rather than sitting at the bar, if at all possible, I like to sit against a wall where I can see the whole restaurant and watch the theater of food and guests.

I try to tip really well, too.
