Cook the Book: 'Tacos'

My best moment was when I discovered real deal carnitas tacos with radish and pickled hot peppers when my boyfriend lived in Spanish Harlem. I'm never going to be the same. Good thing that I'm moving to LA now!

I Ate L.A.

Great article! When were you in LA? I was just in LA last weekend, and had a few nice meals, including lunch at the Apple Pan on sunday (it was blissfully quiet, no wait!), and an amazingly polished meal at Providence on saturday (best dish: salt baked live prawns with tableside service). I really believe Serious Eats should open up an outpost in LA!

Sugar Rush: M&Ms Cookie from Insomnia Cookie

I used to get Insomnia cookies when it just used to be a student entrepreneur run business on Penn's campus in West Philadelphia. It was incredible then- imagine studying until 1am and just hankering for that warm cookie. You could order your cookies online and you'd get them delivered, freshly baked, about 30 minutes later, with the option of milk. Delicious, and just what you need to get you through the rest of the long night. Hence, the name insomnia cookies. I'm sad to hear that the cookies have gone downhill with the expansion of the insomnia empire!

Liberté Yogurt: My Holy Grail of Dairy Products

I actually really like the Emmi yogurts from switzerland. I usually hate fruit on the bottom varieties because they're oversweet, but the Emmi yogurts have a perfect fruit on the bottom. They also have the nice tang of a greek yogurt.

Best Ongoing Dining Deals in NYC?

One of the best deals and a great place for a date would be Kittichai in Soho. They have a $35 prix fixe pre theatre menu. The atmosphere is very sexy and they have a great bartender who will make you a fantastic cocktail. Also, most of the Jean George restaurants (Mercer Kitchen, Perry St, Jojo, etc) are keeping a lunch and dinner prix fixe menu year round. That could be a good choice too.

Which Rice Cooker Should I Buy to Cook In?

I have an Aroma rice cooker that I got for around $25 (see the one below). It works great and in addition to rice, I've used it to make porridge, soup, and to steam food. I haven't taken the plunge into Zojirushi land yet.

having tried different liberte flavors- I have something slightly blasphemous to add: I might prefer Liberte's yogurt over most ice creams.

We were visiting the West Coast when we first came across Fish Tacos. Being from the Midwest (and this was a long time ago) we'd never heard of them and were quite leery of trying them. After some serious nudging from local friends, we broke down and gave them a try - and WOW! We've been practically addicted ever since!

The first good tacos I had while serving in the military in the southwest. Not the hard shelled fall to pieces filled with ground beef and bad cheese from school lunch days.

I had the best beef taco in my life this past month, purchased from a street vendor in Puerto Penasco, Mexico. I don't know if it was the pico, the meat, or the tortilla, but it was just right !!!

I had never had a fish taco. Then, working with a sale rep who had lived in California, he suggested we go to have fish tacos while in LA, where he used to live. We went to a couple of places before we ended up with what was my first fish taco, about 4 years ago. Love em.
