Cook the Book: 'The Gourmet Cookie Book'
The best cookies I had this year were the oatmeal-peanut butter-chocolate chip ones I made from Epicurious.com!
What's Your Favorite Frozen Food?
Trader Joe's mac n' cheese, chimichurri rice, chocolate croissants, prik king green beens, and frozen jasmine and brown rice (so convenient for weeknight meals and just as good as simmered rice!).
Cook the Book: 'Rose's Heavenly Cakes'
My Aunt Kay's Italian Cream Cake is the best cake EVER!

Chocolate covered almonds! Why don't they still sell these at the movies?
Cook the Book: Make it Fast, Cook it Slow
I love my Vita Mix blender! It was an impulse buy at Costco (and I couldn't believe how expensive it was!), but it's seriously indespensible.
Cook the Book: Unforgettable Desserts
Bananas Foster! Impressive presentation and yummy, brown-sugary goodness...
Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Russ & Daughters Brunch Package
It's got to be a garlic bagel with cream cheese, capers, very thinly-sliced red onions and lox. Best...breakfast...ever!
Gordon Ramsay: Cookalong Live, Episode 1
Whew! I actually cooked along with Gordon, and it was even more of a trainwreck participating. I spent about $80 on the ingredients and went to two stores to acquire them. The ingredient list included some minimal prepwork (cutting the potatoes in half, washing the mushrooms, peeling the shrimp), but I was led to believe that we'd have time for the rest of the prep during the show. NOT SO-- I was madly slicing chilis and shallots and garlic and I fell far behind and had to rely on TiVo to save me. Thank goodness I had the liquids measured out in advance, or it would have been really awful.
Also, the main course required the viewer to pound the steaks, but Gordon never specified how thin they should be. So my steaks were too thick and were underdone-- and I spent quite a bit of cash on that meat! I also think I dirtied every single pan in my kitchen. And by the time I finished the three courses and sat down to eat, everything was cold.
The food was actually pretty good, but eesh-- too stressful! I love Gordon Ramsay, but this was not his best idea.
Cook the Book: 'New Classic Family Dinners'
Growing up on the gulf coast, family dinners were usually seafood-based. I'll never top my Dad's fried fish and shrimp gumbo!
Cook the Book: 'The Pioneer Woman Cooks'
I love Elise's Simply Recipes and Dorie Greenspan's baking blog from Paris!
Cook the Book: 'The Craft of Baking'
When I was about 9, my parents took me to New Orleans for a fancy dinner at Brennan's. The bananas foster was the best thing I'd ever tasted, and and I'd never experienced a dessert made table-side. I felt so ladylike and grown up-- I'll never forget that dinner!
Cook the Book: 'Bobby Flay's Burgers, Fries & Shakes'
There's nothing better than caramelized onions and blue cheese on a soft homemade bun, with a heaping pile of skin-on fries and a goodly amount of Heinz ketchup alongside. Oh, and an ice-cold draft Sam Adams. Man, I'm hungry now-- where can I get one in Las Vegas?

Southern dewberry cobbler with fresh-picked berries!
Cook the Book: 'The Sweeter Side of Amy's Bread'
Peanut butter chocolate chip! In a pinch, Trader Joe's "Sutter's Formula" cookies are a decent substitute.
Mixed Review: Trader Joe's Pumpkin Bread vs. Homemade Pumpkin Yeast Bread
I just made this Trader Joe's pumpkin bread this evening! I have to say, it was pretty darn good. I was a bit frightened by the presence of dehydrated pumpkin on the label, and it was certainly enhanced by a dollop of whipped cream, but it was very quick and I only dirtied one bowl!
Also, you've gotta love that the ingredients in the mix are recognizable. I bought a Betty Crocker cake mix for the first time in years a few weeks ago and was disgusted to see that it was comprised mostly of artificial flavors and corn-based substances. All in all, the TJ's mix is pretty decent.
Cook the Book: 'Sweety Pies'
My favorite (and most memorable) pie will forever be the Lemon Icebox Pie from Luby's, a cafeteria chain that's common in my home state of Texas. My family always congregated there after church on Sunday afternoons, and anticipating that pie always got me through the long service.
Cold Cereal Confessions
It's ALL about the Golden Grahams. I could eat them every single day. I think I may have to purchase a box this weekend, in fact-- I love eating cereal for dessert!
Cook the Book: Lidia's Italy
Beef bourgignon, my dad's seafood gumbo or homemade salted caramel ice cream.
Cook the Book: 'The Tex-Mex Cookbook'
Mmm... tamales!
