Ramps, anyone?

Last year I picked up 2 large bunches for $5 at the Union Square greenmarket in NYC. They were lovely, but I'm not sure whether I would pay $30/lb for them, guess it depends on how curious you are. Incidentally, my favorite way to prepare them was to drizzle with a bit of olive oil, salt & pepper and grill them - really brings out the flavor and sweetness!

What Do You Think Of Boiled Peanuts?

I like them! I've only had them in Malaysia. My uncle gave me a giant soggy plastic bag full of them. I didn't plan on actually eating them, but I got hungry in my hotel room. Half a bag later, my husband had to hide them in the mini bar so I didn't eat them all.

Gnocchi help!

I second baking the potatoes on a bed of salt (good circulation). My gnocchi always come out light and fluffy. I also let them dry out for around 30 minutes after I form them.

fish sauce replacement?

Wizard's makes a decent vegan worcestershire sauce you can find at local health food markets or online:

I've also made a vegan nuoc cham substituting the fish sauce with the liquid from reconstituting dried shiitake mushrooms. It has the same umami /depth of flavor effect.
