I had it at 275 for a while (before I got your advice), so it cooked 50 min @350, 40 min at @275, then I put it up to 300 for 15-20 minutes. I tented foil over it so wouldn't get too toasty.
WE are having it for birthday cake tonight, so I am crossing my fingers.
I made a salted fudge sauce that the NYTimes featured in December (delicious btw), and I am going to take your advice and have that available to pour on/over if it ends up too dry.
