Dijon Mustard/Grey Poupon Is Not Elitist

Mustard on hamburgers is all wrong. Mayo, pickles, onions, tomatoes and tons of Heinz Ketchup - now thats a burger!

This might be a generation thing, but whenever I hear Grey Poupon I think of Wayne's World making fun of the original commercial.

I'm wondering if she had the "Prez Obama Burger"? That thing is absolutely delicious: Applewood bacon, onion marmalade, horseradish mayo and Roquefort.

I know that I am 105% in the Obama 'tank' but I have to admit that I do think Dijon Grey Poupon is pretty good.

That guy needs to go back to grading papers and stop worrying about what kind of mustard the President eats.

I kind of want to go to Cornell and heckle from the back row during one of that guy's classes.

Maybe the White House should just heat up Hot Pockets for every meal including State Dinners. That'll show them how un-elitist Obama is. (As long as he doesn't dip it in Grey Poupon of course. Oh noewwwws.)

Dijon mustard is delicious and versatile, and I'll wager that French plebes love the stuff--there goes the elitist argument. There are plenty of reasons to knock Obama, most of them political, IMO, so critiquing his choice of condiment is silly.

I'm one of those desperate, grasping at straws republicans, and I put it on everything :)

Yes. Yes, even you President Obama. You must conform! It is my sworn duty to see that you do conform!
This is America, Land of the Free. Not Dijonistan.

my dad's a republican [i can forgive him because he's my dad], a 100% mccain-votin-NRA-card-carrying republican, but even he can respect a man who likes some variety in his mustards! a real man likes mustard! all kinds of mustard! yellow mustard may be "all american" but any man who's eaten a brat knows yellow mustard is for pussies.

I do not know anyone who does not like hamburgers..Dijon, ketchup, mayo, whatever...as long as you enjoy it it's all good to me!

"with mustard seeds from Canada[...]"

Pinko socialist mustard seeds from Soviet Canuckistan!

There you have it folks. What more proof do you want?

LOL simon!!

I love a good dijon mustard just as much as the next foodie, but I also Think there's a place for the yellow stuff (especially on a hot dog). So sue me.

This thread reminds me of a T-shirt I saw and loved, which read: "Pardon me, do you have any cheap, yellow mustard?"

@mdeatherage - whoah slow down there, too many facts! Those pesky things take the fun out of good old fashion hate mongering and demagoguery.

It's doubly ridiculous when you consider that all Grey Poupon mustard sold in the US is made in the United States, with mustard seeds from Canada and white wine from upstate New York. Kraft owns Grey Poupon, and for at least 20 years, it's been distributed from (and probably made in) New Jersey.

The Grey Poupon you buy in other countries (including Canada) is probably a product of France, but American Grey Poupon is entirely a North American product.

more like guitar queero...yeah, i know it's offensive.

kevinfinnerty pretty much covered the whole issue in his three posts above. they are trying to manufacture a story knowing that people (of a certain age) think of those commercials when they hear dijon. apparently those party rebranding sessions have been pretty successful.

Republicans are grasping at straws, since they have no platform other than fear.

The link is to an original Grey Poupon ad from years ago.

The "somebody" trying to make a story is Sean Hannity. Enough said.

From Serious Eats

I followed the link and I'd swear it was a parody, like some kind of weird parody that doesn't quite hit the funny mark.

Are you telling me that somebody is actually trying to make a story out of this?

They still remember the ad with the two guys in Rolls-Royce limousines:

"Pardon me, would you happen to have any Grey Poupon?"

"But of course."

I believe the soundtrack was a string quartet...
