Tasting Tour: An Eating Tour of the Barcelona Boqueria

Oh! I wish I'd had this guide when I was there in September! We ended up being rather disappointed with the food. Oh well, an excuse to go back!

Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 80: Remembering Our Serious Eater Beagle Brass

Sorry to hear about your loss, Ed. I also have a serious eater beagle, Morris. She once scored herself a piece of raw salmon that was sitting a little too close to the edge of the counter-top. All the best to you and your family.

What is your fantasy food business?

It's amazing how many different ideas there are!

I would love to open a breakfast and lunch place. There would be good coffee, eggs and croissants and fruit for breakfast served with homemade jams and excellent sandwiches, salads and soups for lunch with really good cakes and cookies for dessert.

@sandn8r9 There's a place in Montreal called Soupe soup that also has some sandwiched. It's divine.

Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 75: Can (and Should) I Give Up the Flavored Liquid Habit?

I'm with benbenberi, add a little lemon to your water if you really need some flavour. And you can switch it up with lime and orange if you need a change - the orange especially if you need something a little sweet.

You've come a long way, Ed! Congrats!

Cook the Book: 'The Barcelona Cookbook'

The only tapas place I've been is in Ottawa, a place owned by a couple that end up arguing on a pretty regular basis. I'm looking forward to getting to try the real deal in September, though, when I go to Barcelona!

Reducing Food Costs: Cooking with a Friend

What a great idea! I also love that it will save time for those frantic weeknights. I personally love to make pureed vegetable soups and freeze them in ziploc bags - I'm looking forward to hearing what else you come up with!

Cook the Book: 'Beyond the Great Wall'

I spent 2 weeks travelling through Slovenia and Croatia with my boyfriend and both countries were gorgeous! I spent 3 days in Bled, Slovenia, near the Austrian border. It's a small town on a beautiful lake with a castle on a cliff off to one side and a little island with a church on it in the centre of the lake. We spent a day walking around the lake and jumping in when we got too hot. We rented a boat and rowed out to the island where you dock the boat at the bottom of a huge set of beautiful marble steps that lead up to the church. It was so beautiful that the picture I took of the lake at dusk is my desktop background. Later we ate some 'Bled cake,' a puff pastry and custard creation that I tried to make at home for a Slovenian/Croation dinner we had for friends. It turned out, but only after a lot of frustration and a lot of dirty dishes!

What Is a BeaverTail? An ObamaTail?

I totally wrote about this back in January! http://kitchengraffiti.blogspot.com/2009/01/obama-tails.html
It feels weird to eat a Beavertail while not on the canal. Who else can relate to trying desperately to keep your balance on the uneven ice while picking it up at one of the shacks on the Canal?

Cooking for your Valentine?

I made oreo cookies in the vein of Westville Bakery's cookies in the shape of hearts. http://kitchengraffiti.blogspot.com/2009/02/homemade-love.html and I'm going to make banana-stuffed French Toast for breakfast.

Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 51: My Birthday Gift to Myself

Congrats, Ed! And Happy Birthday!
I read through all of your posts a little while ago, and man, I can understand why it's a struggle. Last year I started going out to restaurants a lot more and ended up putting on 15 pounds. I had to cut way back on my meals out to lose the weight. With all the eating out and tasting and minefields you go through everyday, I'm incredibly impressed. Way to go!
