Sugar free creamsicle/popsicle recipe
I've been meaning to try this out, I've heard it's good: http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/stay-cool/how-to-make-creamy-ice-cream-with-just-one-ingredient-093414
Do you have a favourite mug?
My favorite is a big black and orange Harley-Davidson coffee mug. My son bought it for me as a joke for Mother's Day a few years ago (I'm so not a motorcycle person!). It's really heavy and holds about a cup and a half of coffee, feels nice in hand and keeps the coffee warm. Everyone else in the house knows that it is totally hands off, all mine!
Popovers
I made David Lebovitz's recipe last weekend. It was the first time I ever made popovers and they were perfect! I made them in a muffin tin, should have greased them better since a few stuck, but other than that everything worked out well.

Marfa, TX
Food Shark, Pizza Foundation and get a burger at Padre's. We just got back from vacation in Alpine/Marfa/Fort Davis a couple weeks ago.
I recommend staying at the Alpine Guest Lofts in Alpine (a short drive from Marfa). Our loft was so great with a ton of little extras, fridge stocked with Pellegrino products, etc, baked goodies and different kinds of teas. We got an excellent upgrade and a good discount for staying multiple nights. Loved our room so much we stayed a few extra days. http://www.alpineguestlofts.com/
It's right in the middle of downtown with good food in walking distance- Bread and Breakfast for breakfast, Reata for dinner. Art galleries in both towns.
Lots of galleries are only open on the weekends (or not at all) right now, especially in Marfa since it's off-season. Best to call ahead to check what's open.
Have fun!

When I was on a business trip to St. Louis, about 10 or 12 years ago, I had a BBQ pork steak that was fantastic. I don't remember the name of the place, but I cannot forget that meal. I've never been able to re-create it either.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

The sauce sounds fantastic, unfortunately, the family wants something to drown the mashed potatoes. I'll save that recipe for me though!
She is going to cook them each separately, so no weird mix of marinades.
Vegan Desert
This is a very quick and easy cake to make. It's super moist, and I usually just sprinkle powdered sugar on it. There are also chocolate cake recipes that use baking soda and vinegar instead of eggs and butter. They aren't bad, but this is much better.
Vegan Orange Cake
Preheat oven to 350. Grease & flour an 8x8 pan
In a large bowl:
1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
Add & stir till smooth:
1 cup orange juice
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 Tb white or cider vinegar
1 tsp vanilla
Bake 30-35 minutes.

Blackberry cobbler at the Salt Lick BBQ in Austin during my first trip to Texas. Best dessert I have ever had, anywhere.
"Invited to dinner" food mishaps
My ex-husband and I were invited to a bbq at his sister's house. They had not spent time together in years, and he was quite excited.
We arrive to a dirty house, with stacks and stacks of crusted dishes piled in the sink, etc. Some woman that was staying there helped the sister-in-law shove all the dishes over then rinse pounds of meat in the sink to be barbecued, then stacked all the meat, uncovered, in pans on the dirty counter.
As I am sitting there, politely peeling potatoes, the woman suddenly leans over and begins WASHING HER HAIR in the sink, inches away from the piles of raw meat. I feigned a stomach ache (well, not so feigned after that) and got McDonald's on the ride home.

The blackberry cobbler served at the Salt Lick BBQ near Austin, I nearly swoon just thinking about it. The BBQ was amazing, but the cobbler was unforgettable.
