Chicago: Trying (and Failing) to Uncover a Hidden Gem at Old Chicago

@Burrito Breath Okay you outed me. Beer is a huge reason why Old Chicago is worthy of my business. Thanks for the tip about Friday's!

Chicago: Trying (and Failing) to Uncover a Hidden Gem at Old Chicago

@monopod Mmmm... fake buttery cardboard... :) Seriously, I don't think it's that bad for a chain. Then again, where I'm from, there is no true deep dish pizza within a 100-mile radius, so when I do pizza, it's locally-owned NY-style or nothin'.

Chicago: Trying (and Failing) to Uncover a Hidden Gem at Old Chicago

Funny... I first read this as a review of the passable chain, Old Chicago, whose "deep dish" is really pan-style and bears little resemblance to that of the city in its name.

What is it with city names in pizza chains? The oddest example that still makes me chuckle is when we took a road trip to Toronto and discovered Boston Pizza. What do Canadians think of when they think "great pizza"? Yep, Boston. It's so odd that the company's U.S. outposts are called Boston's Pizza.

Do You Have A Weird Pizza Eating Habit?

I, too, enjoy delayed gratification when it comes to food, but the way it manifests itself with pizza applies to an entire pizza, which I share with my husband on a lazy evening. The pizza is kept in a warm oven, and we tackle it slice by slice on paper Zooanimals plates. I eat the smallest slice first, giving him the next-smallest, so at the end we have the largest, most beautiful slices. If we're not hungry enough to take down an entire pizza, though, I put away the two smallest slices.

I keep wondering how kids will affect this equation...

Mixed Review: Crate & Barrel Soft Pretzels

Still, to DCLSweetspot's point, the only things I mix together to make pretzels are flour, sugar, butter, water, yeast, and salt. So, the mix had flour and sugar? Seems like a big ripoff.

Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 130: Has Hummus Become My Weakness?

I second the kitchen scale suggestion. It doesn't matter what you're eating - peanut butter, hummus, cereal... the portion you allow yourself will creep up over time. For breakfast, I have to switch from toast with pb to toast with butter, honey, and an egg on the side every once in a while to keep my portions honest.

I, too, would be curious to know your average caloric consumption in a day. My husband (6'0") hovers between 220-230, and I just can't figure out why he can't get below that threshold. He's trying portion control. A big hurdle is he prefers processed food over fruits and veggies. It's inspiring to see you go through some of the same struggles with plateauing, because he's been at this weight for about 7 years. He's never been svelte exactly, and I love my teddy bear, but for health reasons I'd be overjoyed if he lost his belly. His dad, a large man, died from colon cancer at 53.

Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 126: Eating in the Car: Do Car Calories Count?

Great job! We did a Nashville to Vegas road trip at the beginning of June. That's a lot of hours spent in the car. I gained just 2 pounds over those 9 days (after losing 2 - my weight is pretty stable, and I made a point of cutting back before the trip). How did I keep the pounds off? NO food in the car! You're just sitting there. You're burning a minimum of calories. Chew some gum, and save the calories for the places that count (mountain pizza and beer in Denver, scones in Utah, green chili burgers in New Mexico, ribs in Memphis...).

You edit my comment and leave only my favorable info without giving me any credit for discovering the switch-up. That's just a little disrespectful. On top of that, you select Primanti's again!!!!!
