Ramps. HTF?
I used most of mine instead of green onions in my Thai vegetable curries. The sharp garlic onion flavor was really stood out in the curry.
Then I had some really good eggs so I made buckwheat crepes with eggs, bacon and ramps.

How strange, I just posted a roasted coconut curry cauliflower recipe today and then was reading my email feed of Serious Eats and saw curried cauliflower and roasted cauliflower! I have to try the Martha recipe with capers now.
Pickled herring. I just wasn't prepared. My then boyfriend (now husband) INSISTED I have a piece for good luck on New Year's Eve, it's some German thing. I'm sure I had a little to drink and it was after midnight. I can take it now but that first year I thought I was going to throw up all over his parents.
I chose my second year dorm based on the food. Alas it went to waste because I didn't factor in the awesome Korean restaurant right across the street. It's siren song caused me to spend money I didn't have and forget about the dorm meals I had already paid for.
Carbs. Bowls of rice or noodles with butter and toast.
I'm also a sucker for Jello-pop. Add Jello powder to 1 cup of hot water, it has to be red (cherry or raspberry). After it dissolves pour it over ice. My mother always made this for me and it really is awesome on a sore throat.
For that recipe, I would use a tablespoon of whatever substitute for butter you normally use and then thin it with more pasta water.
I cook mostly dairy-free (my son is allergic) and I've found this substitution works well every time I've tried it:
1 C heavy cream = ¾ C milk (I use full fat soy) + 1/3 C butter (I use Earth Balance Margarine)
This will not whip, but for other applications it adds the right amount of fat to create a heavy cream ratio in soymilk. I've used it in ganaches, candy making and sauces.
I use Wholesome Sweeteners brand corn syrup after I noticed the addition of HFCS to the Karo brand.
You can find it in some Whole Foods and produce markets and online. I personally try to avoid both HFCS and regular corn syrup on a regular basis but sometimes you just have to make homemade caramels!

lima beans
lime jello

@JudyV........hail from PA, far NW burbs of Philly, but really boondocks here, so I understand. Sounds like moving back to DE would end something? I hope not. Appreciate your vote for turnip pie (makes me giggle just thinking about it), and my daughters would gag, too. I do love my root veggies and fruit, so maybe with apples, butter, spices? I'm not gonna try it until Mikey tastes it! Hey, Mikey......... ;-O
orange marmalade, that stuff is just awful
Raw clams. Forced to eat one by my grandfather at age 10, traumatized and unable to eat fish or seafood ever since.
@Tally: Salt licorice is most horrible!
It's the only food I've ever spit out . . . and I spit it out the window of a moving car. Granted, it was in the middle of nothingness in Iceland. No other cars -- nor people, for that matter -- were on the road.
Nordic folks apparently like salt licorice and upon seeking out a snack while visiting my sister in Iceland, I bought some by mistake. I'm sure the label stated what it was, but I don't read Islenska.
When a bunch of us embarked on a two hour roadtrip to see some waterfalls, I got hungry. And I discovered my disgust of salt licorice. Gak!
Sea Urchin. Or Uni Sushi.
We ordered two pieces. I took one in my mouth and thought I was eating sea urchin waste. I smiled and told my hubby it was awesome. SUCKER. He ate the other piece and has not let me live it down since.
I see others eating it now with lemon (not how we tried it 13 years ago) so I am tempted to try it again, but ya know fool me twice shame on me...
When I'm sick, I love ramen noodles with hot sauce. Something about the hot salty broth and the spicyness really makes me feel better. Other favorites: crackers, pad thai, mac&cheese, grilled cheese (cheddar on wheat only!), or chicken pot pie.
Anything unhealthy: Mac and cheese, pizza bagels, Mcdonalds hamburgers. I take comfort in killing myself slowly apparently.

Chew on That
Mac and cheese, rice, chicken soup. If there's leftover spaghetti, that's wonderful. But I don't cook very well when I'm sick, so I stick to very plain things and let hubby fend for himself. Otherwise he has to deal with my odd sense of taste, which can result in some odd flavors in the end product.
Coffee nearly always tastes terrible to me when I'm sick, as does any sort of seafood. Many other things take on a weird or metallic taste, so I'm best off sticking to the few things that I know will be okay.
As soon as I'm feeling better, the first thing I crave is a big steak or beef roast.
