The Best Beer and Cider We Drank in 2011

I just tried Crispin's Lansdowne on Christmas Eve and really enjoyed it. Made with Irish stout yeast, it's somewhere between beer, apple wine, and cider with a lovely molasses aftertaste. We still have a bottle of Honeycrisp and one of The Saint that we picked up in the Twin Cities area to try.

Have You Ever Tried to Quit Diet Soda?

I'm on a quitting streak right now. I haven't had a can of diet soda in 2+ weeks. It makes me feel terrible (shaky with an angry esophagus) when I'm hooked on it and I spend so much money in the vending machines. And if I bought a 12-pack and took cans to work with me to save money, well, I'd be admitting my addiction then, wouldn't I?

I've been off the stuff for long periods of time before, but then I get stressed or tired and hear someone open a can nearby, and I lose all self control. Yes, I have actually become conditioned to salivate when someone pops a can top. But this time I'm really committing, by making sure I always have a vessel of iced tea or hot tea nearby. If I can't kick caffeine altogether, at least I can get off the caramel coloring, carbonated water, aspartame, and acid!
