good food near St. Luke's Hospital on West 114th Street, NYC

Roti Roll (at about 109th or 110th & Amsterdam, on the East side of the street) has great, cheap little curry wraps. I get the one with sweet pea & egg, but the other ones look great too. They're take-out, and it's certainly not fine dining, but it's delicious.
My other favorite is Taqueria, at 109th and Amsterdam - it's a little dingy inside but really delicious and cheap. Good tortas, tacos, burritos, etc.
Thai Market is also there, with good and relatively inexpensive thai food.
And yes, the Hungarian Pastry Shop is still there (at about 111th or something?).
V&Ts has good pizza. Strokos has decent custom salads. There's also a little crepe place, and it's pretty good, but overpriced.

Hamilton Deli on 116th and Amsterdam is good for quick bites - mainly deli items - they have yogurt and some other healthy items such as salads made to order. Strokos across the street from St. Lukes is also an option (I think it's still open) for a wide variety of food. Symposium on 113th btw Bwy and Amsterdam serve healthy greek salads and pita bread. I would also recommend Radio Perfecto's roast chicken; I'm not terribly fond of the place but the chicken is good and it is relatively healthy. If you want to go over to Broadway you could try Deluxe (113 and Bwy) for American food or Tomo (112 and Bwy) for Japanese (I'm a fan of their ramen soup, but that probably has too much salt for your friend). Honestly, I would try Westside Market's (111 and Bwy) prepared foods or even walk down to Garden of Eden (I think around 105 and Bwy) because they will certainly have some healthy take-away food. Ask your friend if he remembers Takome or the Golden Rail - my parents were at Columbia about 40 years ago and always talk about those places. best wishes to him for a speedy recovery.
