Where to eat in Western NC?

i was born and raised in asheville. the above suggestions are not good, nor authentically asheville and some (mellow mushroom, early girl) are downright tourist traps. but go there, eat at those restaurants but please dont tell your friends how amazing and majestic asheville is, its already overrun by out of towners to the point of nausea.

Best Eats in Charleston, SC?

Cru cafe is great for lunch... have not been for dinner. Tratorria Lucca is excellent for Italian. They do a family style prix fixe dinner on Sunday nights, so depending on your mood you might want to try it or avoid it (it's a set menu). SNOB was good, but not as good as what I expected from all the hype, although the setting was very nice. Definitely check out the rooftop bar at the Market Pavillion Hotel. It's awesome.

Lol so many people say sushi! I do get tired of the rice.

I worked at a freebirds and ate there at least once a day every day and never got sick of it! Think about what's in those things: meat, unleavened bread, rice, beans, roots, berries, salts, acids, everything! If space aliens made human kibble, it'd be freebirds.

I like adding a bit of wasabi powder to the mayo before adding it to the tuna and veggies. It gives it a great kick!

From Talk

I like adding red onions, tomatoes, and olives.
Sometimes just oil and capers and lemon juice.
And then there is a version of Russian tuna salad with eggs and rice. recipe

Tuna, pickles, onions, mayo, peppers, and love.

If you really want to do it without the tuna, try a combination of ground chickpeas and artichoke hearts with olive oil, salt and pepper.

From Talk

Tuna Fish Salad WITHOUT the Tuna

Albacore tuna, lobster chunks, crab or shredded chicken with mayo, dill pickle, celery, apple. Sometimes no apple, with lemon pepper and green onion. Sometimes with grapes instead of apples, with toasted walnuts. Sometimes on lettuce, sometimes on toast or a nice fluffy roll like a potato roll or croissant.

One daughter-in-law does tuna, mayo and crushed Doritos.

From Talk

you could do a salmon/tarragon salad for an alternative

I could eat ______ every day and not get sick of it.

My husband would say a hot turkey sandwich or pizza. We worked at diner 20+ years ago and he had a hot turkey sandwich every day for breakfast around 9:30 after the morning rush. We also worked together at a pizzeria for a few years before that (I made the pies and he delivered--no pervey comments please) and to this day he will eat pizza as often as I will make it for him--he just varries his crust type and toppings every so often. But 9 out 10 he'll ask for NY style crust with pepperoni, mushrooms and onion.
Me--Crowley large curd cottage cheese with a homemade roll or triscuits and a pickle.

Sushi!

Perhaps they sprinkle just the tiniest bit of crack before they roll it? Would explain the addiction.
Also, cereal, french bread, and pho.

Tuna Fish Salad WITHOUT the Tuna

I'm veg, so Quorn is a good alternative--I'm getting lots of good ideas from reading this thread! I sometimes use just plain vegan mayo (if feeling virtuous) but awhile ago I used to like to make the classic chicken salad of raisins, walnuts, mayo, lettuce, and so forth...

From Talk

Tuna Fish Salad WITHOUT the Tuna

Tuna, celery, roasted red peppers, capers or olives, mayo and a dash of mustard, salt, pepper and some sort of heat - Tobasco, Sriacha, whatever.

Or, tuna with drained canned pineapple, whatever mustard I feel like that day, dash of cinnamon, salt and pepper.

Smoked salmon, chopped if you like, with dill cream cheese on a bagel or pilot bread...Not really tuna salad style, but delish!

of course... now that i am vegetarian I make my TuNo Salad sandwiches with soy protein. If you buy the kind that comes without sauce, they taste just as good as I remember the originals. Just make sure to squeeze dry the TuNo.

And if you're in the mood for something room temp or hot, you can stew the tuno the same I used to make stewed salmon... I make it into antipasto and eat with white rice, crackers or tostones.

I could eat ______ every day and not get sick of it.

When I was gestating in the mid-70s, my mom's OB/GYN advised her to eat an egg a day. It's all their fault that I still do. Eggs are why I can't be vegan. That and the occasional stinky cheese.

The other things I can eat every day constitute a frenzy of beige: my own whole-wheat bread, pasta of all kinds, and potatoes. A low-carb diet would kill me with sadness.

From Talk

I could eat ______ every day and not get sick of it.

I eat eggs and greens pretty much every day - sometimes together, sometimes separately.

From Talk

Boxed mac and cheese (annie's with white cheddar is amazing), carpaccio, potatoes, caprese salads, avocados
