McDee and The Mc rib
Although the filet-o-fish may be one of my fave guitly pleasures, eew...
It may be my luck, but every time I have tried one, I have found some mysterious, nauseating, gristle -type chunk that makes me stop eating it..
McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?
Oh yeah, but it has to be dipped in copious amounts of catsup!! (all while hiding in embarassment in the Mickey D's parking lot at 4 am)
Are Turduckens Really Good Eating?
All I have to say is that who really wants to eat a poultry orgy? (sorry for the crudeness, but you all are thinking it!)
and yes, I have tried it, and let's just say I prefer spam.

Thanksgiving, the Only Reason You'd Make Cupcakes Resembling Turkeys
Why do people have to bastardize a cake and a cupcake at the same time...?
Like anyone needs or can comfortably ingest that much nasty shortening frosting.
Totally with the cakewrecks thing, even if it's cute.
So, What Did You Make?
It was all old-skool glory with a great mixture of family and personal recipes. Thanksgiving hasn't tasted like this for years.
It was wonderful having a group effort for the first year in a long time. It seems so much easier when one isn't doing it alone.
Friggin' Bird (like everyone else)
Dressing (funny, housemate and I had the "in the bird or out of the bird" debate, so we had both)
Sweet potato casserole (this one never gets away)
Mashies/Wicked ass gravy
Cranberry sauce (and I do like to think that mike is much superior to others)
Homemade rolls
Red jalapeno poppers because the better half only likes red ones
Deviled eggs
And a grip of wine, pineapple upside-down cake shots, and bromos!!!!
Pecan and Pumpkin pie (that I am still to bloated to eat)
What's the weirdest thing in your fridge?
A Jerusalem Cricket
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerusalem_cricket
It was found late one night; we caught it in an old tupperware container. Being unsure of what to do with it, (and not knowing what it was!), it went into the freezer. Who knows why we haven't removed it now that we know what it is, but I like to think it's our little freezer friend.
Great conversation piece when guests come over.
Blogwatch: Biscuits and Gravy, Always a Classic
B&G at the Denver Diner... such fond, happy memories there...
Thank you for reminding me of it!
McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?
I haven't had one in decades but just to keep this sandwich going, I will go there and have them.
McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?
They're tastey but they're like 700 calories each!!!!!!
McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?
I love them!!!!!!!!!!!
McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?
cheap and delicious - it's a classic. during the mad-cow scare, this was the only sandwich my gf allowed me to eat from the mcd's and i learned to love it. and believe me people, you should worry more about where they get their dairy and poultry than worry about the fish. lastly, i love the tartar sauce overload, once i take it out of the box, i smear half of it on my box and use it as dipping sauce for my golden delicious potato stix. =)
McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?
BTW after watching the show I went to a wholesale distributor that I have bought raw breaded cod "squares" from in the past... I paid $40.00 for
24 - 4oz portions... if my math serves me right, that is $1.60 per portion!!!
I think I'll just buy mine @ McD's
McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?
Actually I was watching a show the other day that highlighted McDonald's own fishing vessels in which the COD are prepared and flash frozen right on the ship... employing many workers who work 12 hour shifts until the cargo is full and then back to port to offload... already prepared and packaged Filet 'O Fish.

@brooke29--You don't eat oats and you make granola bars, not flapjacks!?! For shame! ;)
Like dbcurrie, at present I'm a bit of a traditionalist with oatmeal--if the oats are good and cooked well, I like them plain with a bit of sweetener. In the past, I've stirred in peanut butter, and in decadent moments, butter or honey.
I like dried fruit in other things, but think that they become 'weird' in oatmeal because they either soak up the liquid too much or get dried out when cooking. Nuts tend to lose their flavor.
Favorite Oatmeal Concoction?
I neglected to mention in my post above: Bircher muesli is eaten cold - sitting should take place in refrigerator, please.
Favorite Oatmeal Concoction?
I will cook my oatmeal in the microwave, following the directions on the package. Before cooking a single serving, I add 3-4 dried cherries. When it is done, I sprinkle with a few chopped walnuts and some brown sugar. Serve with milk or half and half.
Favorite Oatmeal Concoction?
I combine old-fashioned oats (for chewiness) with some quick oats (for creaminess). Ratio: 50-50. Then butter and a bit of salt. Or a drizzle of maple syrup.
Another really cool dish is Bircher muesli. Mix uncooked oats with plain yogurt, add some grated apple and diced orange (or any fruit you like), and let sit for a few hours or overnight. The oats absorb the liquid and soften, and the whole thing becomes like an oaty rice pudding. Sweeten with honey if needed. Excuse me while I go whip up a batch for tomorrow...
Favorite Oatmeal Concoction?
I go for sugar, a little milk and some hazelnut coffee creamer.
Favorite Oatmeal Concoction?
Call me a traditionalist, but I usually go with a little brown sugar, milk and raisins. Sometimes I will replace the brown sugar with a tablespoon or so of vanilla whey powder, which sweetens and adds more protein to keep me fuller longer through the day. Sneaky (but delicious) way to eat more protein...
Favorite Oatmeal Concoction?
I usually add brown sugar, cinnamon, soy milk, and then either blueberries, mixed berries, strawberries, or dried cranberries or cherries.
Favorite Oatmeal Concoction?
I like rolled oats with a bit of vanilla extract, brown sugar, walnuts, raisins and soymilk. It makes the house smell amazing and goes great with your morning coffee!
Favorite Oatmeal Concoction?
I'm a little different..like mine with little salt and pepper plus some cheese mixed in. Sometimes some low fat sour cream and bacon bits. Not one to get excited over sweet additions.
Favorite Oatmeal Concoction?
Here's what I put in mine:
Long-cooked oats
bran
pinch of salt
brown sugar OR a dash of real maple syrup
cinnamon
chopped nuts (pecans or walnus)
handful of dried fruit (craisins, dried blueberries, dried apricots, etc.)
I use milk to make the oatmeal instead of water. This is a good idea for women who need to sneak calcium into our diets.
Favorite Oatmeal Concoction?
I add a little bit of maple syrup to the water whem simmering it.
Favorite Oatmeal Concoction?
I cut up half a banana and cook it in with the oats. If you make them in the mirowave put the banana in with the oats and water, and i use a bit of salt and perhaps a few raisins. i cook it for a min or so, and then mix it all together, and cook it for another min-min and a half. it makes it super creamy and delicious without using milk.
when it's done i add cinn and a little bit of sweetner. it's amazing...
Favorite Oatmeal Concoction?
I like mine with a good sized chuck of butter, some whole milk, cinnamon, raisins and brown sugar...pretty standard
McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?
I've always liked this sandwich...and that goes back about 40 years...today I order it slightly healthier w/o the cheese, request light sauce and ask them to add lettuce, tomato and pickle. It is a little confusing for most of the cashiers at first, but most of the time I receive what I requested...just wish the bun was whole grain or a bit healthier in other ways. I generally only eat at McD's when taking a car trip but it is something consistent to count on.
McDee and The Mc rib
I can't do the McRib. Tried it once and it reminded me of the rib sandwiches served in my school cafeteria. I think it's the consistency of the "meat" that gets to me.
McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?
once in a while I get a nostalgic craving for one, but then I think about the highly processed bits of white fish deep fried in heavy batter and slathered with cholesterol laden mayonnaise on a slightly stale bun, not to mention the processed cheese, and I remember why I don't eat filet o' fish anymore. But the pull of childhood is strong.... thinking Velveeta ...
McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?
I grew up with this. I kept the kind of kosher where this was the only thing at McD's that we were allowed to eat. I have never had a Happy Meal. When I was very young, I used to call these Cheeseburgers because of that yummy slice of plasticky American Cheese. The more tartar sauce the better. I used to dip my fries in the sauce that oozed out. I haven't had one in years. Tempting...
McDee and The Mc rib
Just can't order one....fake preformed ribs slathered in commercial bbq sauce...ewwww! Hmm no comparison when I really think about it. A rib needs a bone, smoke flavor, nice rub, little sauce and a beer...none of which you can get at McDonalds.
I'll stick with my usual McD salad while the kids play.
McDonald's Filet-O-Fish: Yea or Nay?
I LOVE THEM ! Second to the Big-Mac.My first job was at the McDonalds 4 blocks from my house (I could ride my bike to work safely at any hour) in the summer of 1967 and again in the summer of 1968, my highschool summer job. The filet-a fish sandwich for only $.25 was great back then when all food was cooked on site and all ingredents were very wholesome, NOT the McDonalds of today as everything comes flash frozen pre-cooked in a microwave-bag, simply put horrible. The original used a fresh-baked slightly-sweet (naturally) bun with a tartar sauce that actually was very good (recipe developed by a real chef not a marketing group) the fish patty was, as pointed out earlier, of predomaintly Haddock or True Cod (now almost extinct thanks to the cod war waged by Canada attempting to preserve the fishery vs the European countries about fishing rights on the Grand Banks) and yes a full slice of real American cheese that had flavor and it was delicious.
I was working at McDonalds when the Big-Mac was introduced and it was also delicious and only about .45 or .50 cents some rediculious price along with .15 cent burgers, .17 cent cheeseburgers, .12 cent fries and so on. Everything was so much better when it was all cooked on site, we even washed, peeled, cut and blanched the fries from whole potatos numerous times a day. I still get a Filet-a-fish and a Big-mac on occassion when I cant control myself while passing a McDonalds.
