New Comfort Foods

I feel like there are two schools of thought on comfort foods. I never heard the term until I went to college (all female east coast school), and there, it was used a catch-all term for things that were fattening but you wanted to eat anyways, kinda like a get out of jail free card. Things like mac and cheese, ice cream, mashed potatos with gravy, and funnel cakes all could be comfort food. I feel like this version of comfort food is used quite a bit- most "traditional" comfort foods are on the heavy side, and the "comfort" comes from the emotionally grounded feeling of a full stomach and lethargic digestion. This works whether grandma used to make the dish or not. And just like for me and my classmates, it gives you an excuse to eat something that tastes good but you may not find nutritionally (or socially) acceptable.

Then there is the comfort food that is more personal like PumpkinBear and avaryne already mentioned. The comfort here is memory association, but not always calorie count. Here a reinvention might or might not be a satisfying substitute, depending on the person.

Historic Mustard Factory Closes in Dijon

I was about to start flipping out until I read the Guardian article- the factory is being closed, but production will continue elsewhere. My favorite mustard (maille) and favorite mayo (amora) are safe for now.
