IKEA Food: Have you dined there?

I have been eating at IKEA Long Island for years now. I still like the meatballs, but miss the whole new potatoes they used to serve with them (now they are mashed.) I have also enjoyed the soup most of the time. And the open faced shrimp sandwich, although it is usually too cold.
I once bought the bag of meatballs, sauce mix, and lingonberries for a party. One of the reasons it is so good is the heavy cream that makes the sauce.
The lingonberries are nice on a turkey sandwich as well.
I'm getting the urge to pay them a visit!

Sweet Ticket Giveaway, Week 3: Pichet Ong's Guilty Pleasure Sweet

It would have to be chocolate chip cookies with cherries and pecans. I remember fondly from my childhood, visiting my Nana in Brooklyn, eating Ebinger's Chocolate Buttercream Layer Cake. If it was still available, I could eat the whole thing.

Cook the Book: 'Eat Me: The Food and Philosophy of Kenny Shopsin'

I haven't made it lately but I used to like chicken cutlet with mustard, butter, S&P, and maybe garlic wrapped up in puff pastry and baked. Also, instead of the mustard, mushrooms, onions & cheese. Which is also good without the pastry.
I have made oven pancakes with fruit often lately -- lots of great combinations -- today I had apples, cranberries and walnuts. Also great with peaches, raspberries and almonds.

Best Find from Trader Joes?

I like their creamy tomato soup, black-pepper cashews, goat cheese, korma sauce, frozen pizzas, pound-plus chocolate w/ almonds bar, chocolate ganache torte, and lime cheesecake. I also like their ham which has more flavor than the usual supermarket brands.
I miss the raspberry salsa and the citrus blend marmalade and some of the cookies they don't sell anymore.
The best thing about TJs is the combination of dependably tasty products (they are great about taking things back if you don't like them, which almost never happens) and excellent prices, especially for dried fruit (love the cherries) and nuts.

We're Giving Away a Truly Great Steak This Weekend

It's been so long since I have eaten at a steakhouse, I almost can't recall.
I ate at Sparks (at least 35 years ago) which was on 18th St nr. 3rd Ave in NYC (or somewhere around there) but I don't remember what we ate. It was good though.
Somewhat more recently (probably 20 years ago) I went to a huge place decorated with cows called Hilltop Steak House in Saugus MA. I remember having filet mignon. I'm sure it's not considered a GREAT steak house, but the portions were generous and we enjoyed our meal.
I live on LI and there are several great steak houses nearby. Unfortunately, I can't afford them. Even if I could, I would still think them overpriced.

Cook the Book: 'Baking, From My Home to Yours'

Chocolate chip with nuts and coconut and dried cherries. And spritz cookies with plum or apricot jam filling, dipped in chocolate.

Wildwood Eats: Britton's Bakery

Looks very much like the ones they sell in Lancaster County PA. But at the Farmer's Market, I think in Bird-in-Hand but I haven't been there in years, they also had one made with cherries. Really yummy.

Cook the Book Giveaway: 'Pork & Sons'

I like Pork with Black Pepper Sauce -- sauteed pork with peppers and maybe onions and/or garlic with Chinese BP sauce from a jar over rice. Or breaded pork cutlets with mac and cheese and spinach souffle. Or just a bacon sandwich.
