Chipotle-Honey-Glazed Chicken Wings with Toasted Sesame Seeds and Green Onion
I made these yesterday for the superbowl and they were some of the best wings I had ever eaten. I love the sweet and the spicy and smoky. Amazing.

What 5 unusual things are in your fridge?
1. Goat - planning to curry it this week.
2. Dandelion - which was a bit too bitter this time around.
3. 6 types of mustard - does anyone really need this much mustard?!?
4. 6-8 dozen apples - I went apple picking a few weeks ago and they have taken up all of my crisper space!
5. a bottle of mint chocolate Bailey's that has been in there since last Christmas!
What comes to mind when you hear the term "food politics"?
Food insecurity - barriers to accessing adequate food...that all people have the right to access food in socially and culturally acceptable ways. The corporate control of agriculture and the food system.
Also, I think of the writing and work of Marion Nestle, Alice Waters and the edible school yard, Michael Pollan, the Centre for Studies in Food Security (http://www.ryerson.ca/foodsecurity/index.html) and local initiatives that inspire me, such as FoodShare's Good Food Box, the Stop Community Food Centre and the many farmers markets that have sprung up all over the city in the past few years...
Toronto - Where to eat?
For a delicious coffee/latte visit Mercury Organic Espresso Bar at Queen St. W and Carlaw (http://mercuryorganic.blogspot.com/ )
Utopia (www.utopia.ca) in Little Italy (College St.) has delicious burgers and most everything else too!
Aunties & Uncles (74 Lippincott Street - near Kensington Market/Little Italy)- great hip little breakfast/brunch spot - the breakfast pocket is my personal favourite.
Swan on Queen West (892 Queen Street West) is consistently my favourite "upscale" affordable diner - the club sandwich is one of my favourites in the city.
One of my 'go-to' brunches is by far 'Easy' which is at Queen W & Roncesvalles. Delicious smoothies, great bacon & eggs ... you can even get toast soldiers, a hard boiled egg with toast strips and your very own toy soldier to take home. It's affordable and casual and I haven't yet had a bad experience.
Rebel House, a "Canadian" pub - (http://www.rebelhouse.ca/home.htm) at 1068 Yonge St. - go for lunch and have a buffalo burger. yum!
I would also recommend Greg's Ice Cream - the roasted marshmallow or the coffee toffee!
Soma chocolate in the distillery district (www.thedistillerydistrict.com)- $2 a truffle - but an amazing truffle - one is enough. I adore the bergamot truffle, the balsamic truffle and the olive oil truffle.
When craving a velvety, creamy food, I eat ____
Creamy mushroom soup is good, as is a pile of whipped potatoes. Creme brulee is amazing!
When craving a velvety, creamy food, I eat ____
Nutella straight from the jar. I only do this on rare occasions, though. I wish nutella was still made as a slab type thing...they used to make it like a slice of cheese, so it was a solid placed between pieces of bread. Then, German children would take the nutella out and throw the bread away; that's why nutella was switched to a spreadable form. If it was still solid, I could easily pack it and enjoy something creamy while listening to professors' lectures.
Splatter Batter!
Cookzfood surely invented the product, with that plug! I think that the entire concept is uproariously funny...What on earth is in that product? It almost seems like a joke.
Splatter Batter!
I don't think I'd buy it myself....perhaps for camping - where it might be a convenience.....but it's not too hard to make yourself.
kmnola....the apostrophe is correct in the use of it's though....
from Grammerbook.com:
"Rule 8 The only time an apostrophe is used for it's is when it is a contraction for it is or it has.
Examples It's a nice day.
It's your right to refuse the invitation.
It's been great getting to know you."
In this case it's is shortened for it is......
Splatter Batter!
I won't be wondering. I'll be eating homemade pancakes.
I never agonize over the possibility that my neighbor is enjoying bottled salad dressing while I make my own vinegrette, either.
Splatter Batter!
Your comment sounds like a commercial, cookzfood. I don't mean offense, but it really does!
The idea is just really weird...I can't imagine anything as thick as pancake batter being delivered through aerosol...
You might as well just buy the cartons of pre-made batter if time and convenience is an issue...I don't see why its necessary to...uh...spray it. Oh well, a gimmicks a gimmick.
Maybe it does turn out decent pancakes, but personally I'd rather see the whole ingredients going into my food. The ingredients in Batter Blaster aren't that offensive (xantham gum, chemical leavening, products derived from food, at least), but they're still manufactured derivatives I prefer not to eat if whole eggs, milk and flour are already on hand all the time.
Splatter Batter!
The comments posted above for Batter Blaster are simply a laugh. Disapointing as well, as I am sure none of you have even tried the product. It is amazing to me that you all have judged a book by its cover rather than making a real comment based on the truth in a taste test. One taste of the Organic, low sodium, low calorie, low fat, Batter Blaster and you will have a different attitude and response. This product is clearly a trend setter and will be as common in the grocery store as bread & milk. Those of you who critisize now will only be left to wonder what everyone else is enjoying while you mix up your own mess.

Hey JEP, my hubby brought home a couple jars of these from Mississippi when he went to visit his uncle. We just eat them on my hot, buttered buttermilk biscuits. Mmmm, man their good! I'm sure there are other ways/things to do with them, but I haven't tried anything else since I had never had figs any way besides Newtons :-O until I tried these preserves.

I think I see some interesting trends, but it will require further analysis. Disclaimer: I didn't check my work to see if I tallied them correctly, and I gave no points if the answer was both, none, or a substitution.
Before anyone asks... YES! I do have better things to do with my time... i.e., the kids might not have clean clothes tomorrow, the dishwasher needs to be emptied, and the porches and car are still covered with ashes (I live near the wildfires).
BUT HEY! anything for you guys!
When craving a velvety, creamy food, I eat ____
Greek yogurt with honey & dried fruit ... Ben and Jerry's (ridiculously creamy, no? Sometimes the ultra-rich ice creams tick me off; I mean, it's easy to make something delicious if you pump it with 24 grams of fat in one half cup!) ... Ricotta, straight out of tub ... and my secret shame, Laughing Cow cheese. There's something terrific about it although it scares me that it never need be refrigerated!
When craving a velvety, creamy food, I eat ____
Cream of Wheat or a velvety Mac and Cheese... and for dessert, a Soft & Creamy soft serve ice cream. They're sold only here in Puerto Rico. It's the BEST soft serve ice cream ever!!!!!!!

4. Pistachio Cannolis - one left from my birthday celebration.

Mr. Softee, you can't get creamier or more velvety. On the other hand, it's not summer anymore, so:
My mashed potatoes in a sea of red wine enhanced brown gravy

9. SWEETENED, but only if its brewed and not from a powder or syrup

What 5 unusual things are in your fridge?
mrsbao: I've got the do fu ru (the fermented, spicy bean curd paste) in the fridge too! My dad likes it, me, not so much...
We've also got the rice balls with the black sesame paste too...its too late to make them or else I'd cook up a few now for a snack...
What else do we have...a cousin just brought us a big package of a pickled/salted vegetable and chopped clam mixture.
It's very salty and spicy, and is meant to be a rice and porridge condiment, as well.
Also a tray of top quality salted duck eggs...
Also, a glass jug of homemade soy bean milk
