La Brisa...a little Mexican restaurant in Bandera, TX. Best chicken tacos..made the right way...rolled in corn tortillas and topped with an awesome fresh salsa, shredded lettuce and cheese. And rice and beans that can't be topped!

Cook the Book: 'Mrs. Rowe's Little Book of Southern Pies'

I was making a Rebecca Rather's coconut cake for my mom's 60th birthday. It was my first from scratch layer cake and it took me hours! Would have been perfect if my mom hadn't had the brilliant idea to come come chop a little onion next to my freshly chopped coconut. I didn't think anything about it at first, because it seemed to stay separated. However, my brother took one bite and said, "Why do I taste onion?". The coconut must have gotten some onion juice on it and totally took on the onion flavor!

My dad made Scandinavian waffles for me on my birthday every year. They are still my favorite waffles which are loaded with sour cream and cardamom and then dusted with powder sugar. Delish!

The first time I set my Weber up for indirect grilling was for a Carolina Pulled Pork. It was the first time I had ever even lit a charcoal grill! The pork was awesome and it is now a family favorite!

My parents threw a weekend long party at my house and I pulled it off wonderfully by breaking the ice with lots of margaritas and guacamole! I fed the crew of 8 countless meals...but, the real hit was the chile verde! Yum!

Weekend Book Giveaway: 'The Saucier's Apprentice'

We were proud newlyweds and first time homeowners when my cousin from Denmark brought his family to Texas for a week long visit at our home. I was so excited to stretch out my legs for the first time as hostess and lady of the house. I wanted to welcome them with a traditional Texas summertime meal and decided on fajitas with all the fixings and lots of margaritas and cold beer. My husband agreed to handle the grilling if I marinated and prepared the meat, so while the others were outside sipping their cocktails I got to work on the chicken and flank steak taking great care to season the meat perfectly and cut everything into perfect strips. When I took the platters of meat out to be grilled and handed them proudly to my husband he looked at me quizzically before erupting in laughter. It never dawned on me that you cut the meat after grilling it. The Danes have come back every year and every year they tease and ask for fajitas.
