Hot Doug's in Chicago: Good Hot Dogs and Good Neighbors in Line

I went to Hot Doug's for the first (and second) time a few weeks ago and I am happy to say it lived up to the hype. I had the Ribeye Steak Sausage with chimichurri and crispy fried onions and the Marty Allen, both were delicious. Doug is super nice and so passionate about what he does.

WineToMatch: I agree with your theory. No one ever seems to have to wait for a table which is quite nice after waiting for so long to get in!

Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds: The True Champion of Breakfast Cereals?

Add me to the list of people who eat it straight from the box. I think it's an awesome snack!

Snapshots from Greece: Nescafe Frappe

They serve these at Athens Cafe in Astoria, NY and they are quite delicious. Pretty much every table in the place is drinking them!

Maybe the Chicago place I miss the most. A true original. My fave was the Don Rickels - a Thuringer done Chicago Style. I'm sad now...

I actually just watched the Chicago episode of No Reservations with Anthony Bourdane tonight and he went to Dougs! I've been to chicago a couple times and have heard nothin but good things about Doug's each time i was there...but unfortunatly was unable each time to make it over there from where i was staying. I heard the Foie Dog is amazing...like died and gone to duck heaven good...melt in your mouth good...

Went to the event at Astor Center in NYC today, and man, I wish I could have access to these hot dogs whenever I wanted. Doug, please come back whenever you can!

Best cereal ever. Well...the original. I like it better minus the almonds.

I myself am a Life girl all the way but HBofO is pretty tasty. Especially the chocolate one.

For the past 20 years it's been Cheerios, no sugar, maybe some blueberries when in season with skim milk five days a week for my husband's daily breakfast fare. He likes homemade granola, but it takes longer to chew than Cheerios. Oldest son will eat any cereal that is some what sweetened. Younger son is like me, savory breakfast all the way. Eggs, bagel with veggie cream cheese or just a nice dollop of large curd Crowley cottage cheese is our idea of the perfect breakfast.

I have to disagree with your love of Nescafe frappe foam! I was in Greece last August, and as much as I wanted to enjoy it as a nice cool beverage (in the 105 degree heat), I could not get past the instant coffee bitterness floating in the puffy bathtub foam. I contented myself with old-school Greek coffee (same as Turkish). Not refreshing, but still delicious and cafeinated!

Take the N out to Astoria and check out the sidewalk cafes. You are guaranteed to have frappe sightings! They are too strong for me, but my boyfriend loves them---light and very sweet. Try Lefkos Pyrgos (23rd Ave. and 31st St, right by the Ditmars stop on the N) for old Greek men drinking frappes and eating delicious pastries.

You can totally make them here in the States using nescafe in the store. Directions here: http://goinggranola.com/2009/04/29/frappe-lust/

i used to drink these all the time when i lived in Thessaloniki. I just used an empty small water bottle as the shaker and it worked fine
