Hot Apple Cider near Central Park?

Le Pain Quotidien (sp?) has hot cider. There's one on West 64th btw CPW and Columbus.

And yeah, the Greenmarkets would have cider too! There's another one on Saturdays at the little triangle park by Lincoln Center - a short jaunt from the lower west side of the park.

Can Anyone Help Me Make Bulgolgi?

if you have an Asian market, they will probably have thinly sliced sirloin packed and labeled "bulgogi" in the freezer or meat counter. make sure to serve with red leaf lettuce, razor thin cut scallions, sesame oil and hot pepper paste mixed with soy bean paste (sam jang). also, throw some thin sliced garlic and mushrooms onto the grill with the meat.

My favorite is the rainbow colored slices of duk and plucking the pine nuts off the little jewels of duk.

Also, make sure you eat lots of duk buk ki off the street side stands. So spicy and so good.

:) I miss Korea!

Cook the Book: 'Real Cajun'

When I was having a bad day or was sick, my mom would make me a bowl of rice mixed with soy sauce and butter. The butter would be melting slowly into the hot rice and I would eat fast so I could catch that last little gob of cool, sweet butter.

On cold Saturday afternoons, my dad would take leftover rice and boil it with water. We would sit on stools at the kitchen island and slurp it down together with lots and lots of spicy radish kimchi and toasted seaweed. He would tell me stories about his childhood. This is his ultimate comfort food and now it's mine!

Hot Apple Cider near Central Park?

Oh man, thanks so much you guys :)
Due to lack of judgement and eating 7 white castle burgers the night before, I wasn't feeling well enough to go to the City. However, I'm going tomorrow, and hopefully the weather will be okay enough ...

THANK YOU!!!!

Hot Apple Cider near Central Park?

Tucker Square Greenmarket has hot apple cider from Locust Grove on Thursdays and Saturdays and it's only a few blocks from the park at 66th and Broadway.

If you want that spiced-cider taste from Starbucks without all the gloopy stuff, ask for steamed cider with a pump or two of chai syrup in it. The chai has all the good spices and a little bit of black tea bitterness, which cuts the sweetness of the apple juice nicely.

lol. Totally agree that driving over there is awful. They have parking behind the market - if you take somerville ave in, stick to the far right fork on to bow street then take the first right (small side street). The parking lot will be on your right!

From Talk

Can Anyone Help Me Make Bulgolgi?

@misterhee - That's really helpful, thanks, I'll check it out! Although I DO hate driving in Somerville (I think 90% of the unlabeled one way streets in a city full of unlabeled one way streets are in Somerville) I'll brave it for bulgolgi!

From Talk

Can Anyone Help Me Make Bulgolgi?

Oh, just noticed you're in boston! Reliable market in union square in somerville sells presliced beef for bulgogi - just head to deli case in the back of the store. Brookline food village - right off the brookline hills stop also carries it in their freezer. There's also Lotte Market - 297 mass ave - near MIT and central square that carries it as well. Every once in a while you can also find pre-marinated bulgogi in the refrigerated case. Good luck!

From Talk

Can Anyone Help Me Make Bulgolgi?

Traditionally bulgogi is made with thinly sliced ribeye - the heavy marbling makes it more tender compared to something like sirloin. Maangchi's recipe is decent - you can substitute apple for the asian pear if you can't find it.

Great recipes, thanks! I don't have an Asian market SUPER near me, but maybe I'll see if the butcher at WF will slice it really thin for me...I like it superthin and doubt I'm capable of slicing it as such, even if I chill it first. Yess I can't wait!

This is on our recipe list to post on our food blog, but we love to use Maangchi's Korean Cooking blog --she has a video recipe of bulgogi.

Served: New York Is Not the Only Place for a Restaurant

Hannah : I believe your post conveyed a meloncholy feeling that we all feel if we are lucky enough to experiance a " first day of the rest of your life " kind of day . Certainly the last report of a long college career qualifies . Your story of that " day " also has a " is that all there is " kind of feel .Your tie in with your parents and their comfort zone they provide is telling . This post reminds us of our " first days ". As you can tell from the comments some of us handled them well ; others did'nt . Enough "psych 101 " ; that was a freshman required course . Wasn't it ? I can barely remember , jfitz
