To Eat or Not to Eat? That Is the Question

Hi Ed,
Are you an all or nothing person? Me, I can't have an open bag of chips without eating most or all of it so it's easier for me not to have it around or even start to nibble. If there's something yummy, I just can't stick to the "I'll just eat a bit" plan. So I usually stick to a lower calorie (but throw in some fat since your body does need it) diet on most days interdispersed with days of indulgence. I allow myself to eat all the veggies I want but a modified quantity of fruit since it's higher in calories. I also try to eat something high in fiber everyday. If your local Trader Joe's has them, try the delicious Blueberry or Apple Cranberry fiber cakes from Zen Bakery. I know it sounds yeewww but they're dense, moist and best of all, tasty. Throw in the exercise and I figure it all equalizes in the end.
Most of all, whatever works for you, it has to be a permanent change - sorry, but true. It has been for me for almost twenty years (I was a plus size person before the term was even coined!).
And remember, we're all rooting for ya!

Brussels Sprouts (with horseradish). Some call them little green balls of death but I just call them delicious!

I crave broccoli (very healthy). But when I add the cheese on top, I think I've just lost the healthy part!!

I actually like the flavor of dried apricots and dried prunes. I find myself often looking for either of them in my refrigerator.

I always crave grapefruit but because of a certain medication I am on, I am NOT allowed to have it! I think about it every morning when I see my husband eating his! Not fair! :(

As a cancer patient with an iffy stomach and an uncertain future, I try as many healthful food combos as I can find out about. Lately, I start every day with a spinach-banana smoothie: a handful of fresh spinach, a banana, scant 1/4 c skim milk and some ice cubes thrown in a blender for 10 seconds or so......deliciously sweet and so nutritious; vit K, B6 and C, potassium and a ton of flavonoids and antioxidants, etc. Check out World's Healthiest Foods @http://www.whfoods.com for spinach's health properties, you will be amazed. Try the drink, you will be delighted (and oh so healthy)!

I crave fresh home-grown tomatoes! I also love fresh pineapple. I always have to control how much I eat of each of these because of the acid in them. Thanks for the great contest!
