Tong yuen (my attempt at Cantonese photetics) aren't always filled with sesame paste. They can have peanut filling, red bean filling, or be served with no filling at all. Tong yuen is just the general term for a glutinous rice flour dumpling.

Baw law bao (literally meaning pineapple bun) do not necessarily have pineapple filling. The name comes from the idea that the bun's outer curst resembles a pineapple. If you go to a bakery and order a baw law bao, they will by default give you a bao with no filling on the inside. But there are many variations of a baw law bao. You can get it with nai wong (milky, eggy cream filling), red beans, taro...
