A post about a place from my hometown on SE?! Never thought I'd see the day...I only visit for the Mexican food though.

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Korin Knife
Serrated knife. How did I cut bread or tomatoes without it before? Very poorly.
Cook the Book: 'The Splendid Table's How to Eat Weekends'
Breakfast/brunch for sure. Eggs benedict, crispy hashbrowns (shredded only - none of that home fries crap), and a bloody mary. Or, if I can get my hands on them, a bunch of potato waffles and good breakfast sausages.
Giveaway: Enter to Win This Panasonic Breadmaker
Sourdough. I just can't live without it.
Labor Day Giveaway: Tenderloin Filets and Cedar Grilling Planks
Bacon wrapped shrimp in barbecue sauce and corn on the cob then do it up mexican style.
DAMN I cut my finger again!
I just cut myself last night. Was making pizza dough in the food processor with my sister's new cuisinart. I got totally distracted and thought it was a good idea to stick my hand in and grab the dough that was covering the blade, which resulted in a deep cut to my left middle finger. If any of you are wondering how sharp the blades are on a cuisinart they are VERY sharp..barely put pressure on the blade. I've been so clumsy lately...burned my hand last week too. :(
Cook the Book: 'Canal House Cooking Volume No. 6'
It's a tie between my first time at Tesco when I moved to Ireland and my first time at Fairway in Red Hook. They were memorable for very different reasons which I'm sure you can figure out. Although, I would also have to throw in my first time at Picard Surgeles when I lived in Paris. I was fascinated with frozen food as a child so to encounter and entire store dedicated to frozen food was pretty cool. I got the duck fat potatoes and they were tasty.
Cook the Book: 'Salad as a Meal'
Kale, roasted beets, pecorino, pecans, and lemon vinaigrette is my favorite meal salad at the moment. I love using kale as a base and mixing up the other stuff.
Cook the Book: 'The Big New York Sandwich Book'
The Godmother at Bay Cities in Santa Monica is the BEST sandwich I have ever eaten and will remain so until I die. Genoa salami, coppacola, ham, prosciutto, provolone. Pretty much any sandwich you get there is amazing, but that specific one holds a special place in my heart (er stomach). It's really the bread that makes it so good. And the giardiniera. I've yet to find a similar one in nyc that comes even remotely close to the quality of a Bay Cities sandwich.
The 10 Best Pizzas in NYC
Lucali and South Brooklyn Pizza are two of my absolute favorites. I also like the vodka pizza at Rubirosa if I'm feeling like a super thin crust. Love the Sicilian at L&B Spumoni too.
Hard Taco Shells: Yea or Nay?
Yea! The crunchiness is what makes it so good. I do Taco Tuesdays every now and then with both hard and soft taco shells- it's great. I've never heard of anyone having such issues eating a hard shell taco...
Win Tickets to Bouchon Bakery's Bastille Day Dinner
French cheeses - chabichou du poitou (my favorite french goat cheese), camembert, bleu d'Avergne, baguettes, saucisson sec, fois gras & pates, summer fruits, macarons, wine, and champagne.
Goodbye, Dumpling
Oh my gosh I'm so sorry for your loss. Teared up while reading this. I love my sister's dogs like they are my own so I can only imagine how devastated you must be. He will be greatly missed by many SE readers. I'm going to go give the dogs a hug now.
Does anyone really like brunch?
I love brunch because brunch food is awesome (eggs benedict is one of my favorite dishes ever) and I get to drink bloody mary's and get drunk in the daytime. Ain't nothing wrong with that.
Do You Buy Peanuts and Cracker Jacks at Baseball Games?
I've bought Cracker Jack's before when I used to go to ballgames...that is until I went to a Met's game and got hit by a foul ball which broke my collar bone. True story. I hate baseball now.
Cook the Book: 'The Southern Foodways Alliance Community Cookbook'
Biscuits and gravy...mmm
Cook the Book: 'Michael's Genuine Food'
Homemade, satisfying food that is as enjoyable to make as it is to eat.
Weekend Giveaway: 'My Father's Daughter'
Tina Fey - I love her. Or, Samuel L. Jackson. Parody cookbooks are cool, right?
We Try the Whole Menu at Pret a Manger
Hmm none of the sandwiches I usually get are on here, but maybe that's because they've changed them, which is really annoying. I usually to go to the one under Rockefeller when passing through for lunch. I like the spicy shrimp & cilantro wrap and the chicken caesar wrap (though they recently changed it to a baguette and I'm disappointed because I really liked the wrap). I also used to get the cuban a while ago, which was pretty tasty - they really should bring it back. Their soups are blah - I find them all to be really watered down and flavorless. I do like the little brownie squares because they're small and I don't feel as guilty for eating them. My only issue is that it's overpriced, but I like not having to wait forever for food.
Japanese Snacks: Biscuity, Chocolatey Things
Oh man, koala yummies were my favorite thing to get at the "Asian" market as a child along with shrimp crackers. Also, the banh mi sandwich shop next door was so good...still can't find any here that can compare.
