Black and White Cookies
Go with the Epicurious recipe...does anyone recall a vintage Gourmet cover featuring these cookies at one point? Anywho, it is a good recipe...

Jep--I too ate the ears first ala Tyson-style. My favorite was and is Robin Eggs. I love all the colors and the mini choco layer between hard shell and malted center. The goal is to carefully eat the shell without disrupting the choc coating...I like to savor all 3 layers at a time...OCD, I know
What about a sugar cookie bar? I have done this with adult/kid parties. You can offer 2 simple frostings with kid-friendly like sprinkles, sugars, & candies. For the adults, candied nuts, citrus zest & preserves. Half the fun is muching on the toppings.
Black pepper water crackers, salted butter, & jalapeno jelly....standing by the fridge making a new one while eating current...naughty...
Thats so funny i was just about to tell you about the black and white cookie company, if you didn't want to bake the cookies yourself. The cookies from that company are top notch. Me and my husband ordered them as favors for our wedding and they went over really well. Its not every day that you find them at a wedding, so people really appreciated the uniqueness of the gift. The company worked very well with allowing us to customize the cookie. And the cookies came out great!
I order authentic and all natural Black & Whites from:
The Black and White Cookie Company
The even have special varieties.
Fritos with Helluva Good Onion Dip. I can't look myself in the mirror for days afterwards - thankfully, I only buckle about once a year (twice if it's a really rough year)!
You mentioned you were also interested in other wedding favor recipes.
I've seen Pecan Tassies at many southern weddings, showers, bridal luncheons, etc. They are like mini pecan pies baked in mini muffin tins. Very simple ingredients, but so delicious. Very southern. The recipe I have used is found in "The South: The Beautiful Cookbook." I believe the recipe was contributed by Natalie Dupree, so you could probably find it in one of her cookbooks, too.
Check out the post from a few days ago on www.DavidLebovitz.com. It was all about black & white cookies.
Also someone posted a recipe in the comments (have not tried it) but it looked like it might be just the thing.
potato chips!!!! And maybe some nuts. If I am in a sweet mood and I have some cookies which are homemade (loathe store-bought) then I will go for that.
Profiteroles.
They're on the cover of Gourmet and my husband, sick with bronchitis, has asked for the profiteroles. Didn't feel like messing around with pate choux, so I did what I used to do in college:
Store-bought croissants, split in half, toast both sides til golden brown and crisp, don't walk away, it happens real fast.
Use the toasted croissants to make an ice cream sandwich using really good vanilla ice cream, top with hot fudge sauce or strawberries in syrup, whipped cream & cherry.
Might sound weird, but it is sooo good...
Deep fried offal (crispy, extremely fatty)
Cheesecake
Tortilla chips with that day glo orange spicy cheez sauce...
