New Orleans' Next Food Dynasty

Don't go to Sucre without getting the Avery Island Chocolates. They are chocolates sprinkled with salt from Avery Island(where they make Tabasco) that makes an amazing combination.

New Orleans, when to go, what to eat

Definitely book a flight as early as possible. The weather gets hot by May but still might be nice.
Some reasonable, but excellent food options:
-burgers at Port of Call on Esplanade
-po' boys at Mother's on the corner of Poydras and Tchoupitoulas
-great fried chicken and jambalaya at Coop's Tavern on Decatur

Off the Broiler: NOLA Burger

Yo Mama's in the Quarter has amazing burgers in many different varieties, even one with caviar and sour cream.
I eat there at least once a week. Port of Call is still tied for best burger in my opinion, but the lines are terrible. Try going Mon-Thurs between 2-5 and theres usually no wait; or go with no more than 2 people and you can usually grab a seat at the bar fairly quickly.

At Acme Oyster House Morley Goes for the Burger

They should dive into some raw oysters and boiled crawfish. It would make for a great interview.

Crawfish Boil Side Dishes

For a full meal, you can just add more to the actual boil besides just corn and potatoes. For instance,
mushrooms
heads of garlic
raw peanuts
artichokes

There is a lot more here- http://crawfish.com/lagniappe-ingredients-in-the-crawfish-boil.php

I also agree with the beer, particularly one of the Abita varieties.

All About Crawfish

Thats the slow way to eat them for beginners. I like to do it all in 2 steps.
-pull off the head, simultaneously pulling off the first section of shell
-bite/pull meat while pinching tail all in the same motion

Louisiana Roadfood Festival in New Orleans This Weekend

Wow, I live on the 800 block of Royal St and I knew nothing about this. I'll definitely be there now.

Louisiana Roadfood Festival in New Orleans This Weekend

I also live in the Greater New Orleans area (gotta make sure you pronounce it correctly! (New Or-lens, not New Orleenz!). I would love to go to this festival... but I am already committed to a crawfish boil on Saturday, and Sunday is booked as well. Hopefully, I'll be able to ready about it here next week!
