Are there any foods you're ashamed to love?

10 for $1.00 ramen noodle soups
I will then add:
frozen fish sticks
McDonald's & Taco Bell
mac-n-cheese (made with Velveeta)
potato cheese soup (made with Velveeta)
hmmm...maybe anything made with Velveeta?
Where to eat in Dallas, Texas?
An awesome hole-in-the-wall Mexican place: Herrerra's on Maple at Oak Lawn. Greasy spoon: Kel's Kitchen & Diner on Forest at the tollway. Burgers: Twisted Root Burger Company in Deep Ellum or Jakes Burgers on McKinney uptown.

What do you eat for breakfast on holidays?
My mom has always made a cheesy sausage casserole for breakfast on Thanksgiving. And on Christmas morning it's usually Rotel & Velveeta dip with cocktail weenies wrapped in store bought croissants. Not the classiest, but it's SO sinfully good!

School lunches - A walk down memory lane
I, too loved pizza days (rectangle with white cheese and pepperoni chunks or yellow cheese with sausage bits). And the hamburgers were pretty good too (although, even then, we called them mystery meat).
My mom still works in the same school district I grew up in so occasionally I'll go have lunch with her. Now they have something called "chicken rings" that scare me. What part of the chicken comes in a ring??
Crackers...what are your top 3 picks?
Ritz, Club Crackers & Wheat Thins
Sunday Night Soups: Beef Chili con Carne With Meat (Gurgling Cod Remix)
A question:
"Beef Chili con Carne With Meat" sounds kind of repetitious. From what I know, "con carne" in spanish means "with meat". So your recipe is called "Beef Chili With Meat With Meat"?
Of course, maybe this is the reason I hated spanish in school! ;)
Favorite Kind of Cake and Icing?
I'm not a huge cake person, but I DO love Boston Cream Pie.
I've been trying to come up with something funny regarding the fact that my favorite cake is named a pie but I can't and now I'm frustrated. I need some BCP!
toppings on your hamburger... your "go to" combination?
1) ketchup and blue cheese (don't make fun of me!)
OR
2) ketchup, mayo, caramelized onions, grilled mushrooms and swiss cheese.
Favorite "unlikely" food combos?
Ketchup on mac-n-cheese, ketchup in mashed potatoes & gravy, ketchup & mayo on french fries...hmmm, ketchup on just about anything, I guess.
Where's everybody from?
I'm surprised at the lack of Texans! I'm in Dallas and mostly shop at Whole Foods, Central Market, Simon David (Tom Thumb/Randall's) and the farmer's market downtown.
Other big places around are Kroger, Albertson's and the Target & Wal-Mart Supercenters.
What seemingly basic ingredient can you simply not bear?
I hate raw onions, but love them cooked. I hate green olives but love black. And I hate hate hate anything with a licorice flavor (fennel, anise, etc.).
Dinner Tonight: Stuffed Tomato Nests
This is another version that looks really good:
http://cloudberryquark.blogspot.com/2007/05/waiter-someone-stuffed-eggs-in-my.html
Perfect PB&J? What's your preference?
Any peanut butter (I'm not at all picky), my mom's plum jelly, and raisin bread fried up like a grilled cheese. So ooey, gooey & fruity!
Sunday Night Supper
When I was growing up it was always grandmother-made fried chicken, mashed potatoes with cream gravy (made from the chicken grease), fresh green beans, fresh yeast rolls and some kind of cake or pie.
I miss those days!
School Food!
We had something called "chicken rings". Now, what exactly is ring-shaped on a chicken? They became known as "chicken a**holes" or the cleaner version, "chicken buttholes".
Desserts I don't like...
Anything with cream cheese icing.
I wish there was a ______ in my neighborhood....
My mother's kitchen!
2 Eggs... Meat... toast... juice.. hot bev
Over easy, chicken sausage, biscuits and cream gravy with a big glass of milk..
Beef Jerky? white trash or actually good?
It's a very healthy snack, especially if you're dieting. Beef is always good, but you should also try buffalo, emu, turkey...
What is your biggest food difference with your sweetheart?
He doesn't like tomatoes, avocados, casseroles, mexican food or pasta which are all my faves. What does he like? Fried chicken and french fries. He's 30 going on 13.
Beef Jerky? white trash or actually good?
I have found the best place for beef jerky is here http://nationwidecandy.com/candy/items.asp?Cc=MEAT&Tp=&iTpStatus=1 They have most all the major types. I have now bought from them three times and am very satisfied. Does anyone else has have a favorite?
Perfect PB&J? What's your preference?
Old skool, yo. I can't imagine why people would want to gourmetify something so classic and delicious as-is!
White or Sara Lee soft wheat bread
Creamy PB, any brand
Grape/Seedless raspberry JELLY (jam no... too thick.)
Cut diagonal with a tall cold glass of chocolate milk.
What do you do with an avocado?
I love making guacamole or just spreading mashed avocado on toast. After reading this I want to make avocado ice cream... that sounds great!
Beef Jerky? white trash or actually good?
Pretty much the best ever.
There are so many more types of jerky to try, too.
Ostrich jerky, pineapple jerky, even bacon jerky!
Check out http://www.Jerky.com . They have quite a bit.
Desserts I don't like...
Icing with way too much sugar. I'm usually the one scraping icing off of cake at parties.
Banana bread or cooked bananas (plantains don't count). I love bananas though.
Most corporate baked goods; you can taste the lack of love and care in them, and I can't remember ever reaching for carrageenan or sodium benzoate when baking.
Sugar-free anything. Sugar substitutes taste nasty.
Most fruitcakes. I'm bored with them.
Adult-sized slices of chocolate cake. I usually find it too rich to eat in large quantities. I love chocolate, I just prefer it in small doses.
Most donuts, except for cake donuts.
Crunchy cookies. Just not a fan of the texture.
Desserts that make me go meh:
Red velvet cake? I mean, it usually tastes OK (vaguely reminiscent of malted milk, like Wendy's frosties), but I always feel odd eating so much food coloring.
Sock-it-to-me/7-up/insert soda here cake. Common in Southern cooking, and almost always too sweet.
Re: buttercream icing: unless you had it on a homemade cake or cake from a wedding party, it probably wasn't made with real butter. 'Buttercream' icing made from vegetable shortening is pretty disgusting.
I'm surprised so many people here don't like tiramisu, but I've had my share of bad tiramisu. I'll second the cannoli though. Highly overrated and just not that tasty.
What do you eat for breakfast on holidays?
My mother made several beautifully decorated fruit, nut stollens every year for Christmas breakfast. We would have that nuked or toasted prior to opening gifts. Afterward, we'd have a more traditional eggs and bacon or sausage breakfast. If one of her children couldn't be with the rest of us for the holidays, she'd make their's earlier and mail. If she was staying with me, I'd know that she'd be in the kitchen most of Christmas Eve, making a mess. Secretly, we all thought they weren't quite worth the effort, and were on the dry side. Mom is gone now, and I wish I knew how to make her beautiful, delicious stollen. Even more, I wish she were here to mess up my kitchen.
Best food and beverage pairings?
fresh hot bread out of the oven with butter and a good cup of coffee! yumm the breakfast of champions (albiet unhealthy ones, but who cares) ;)
What do you eat for breakfast on holidays?
nothing special for Thanksgiving but Christmas morning is croisant bread pudding. totally decadent and bad for me but yummy!
What do you eat for breakfast on holidays?
Thanks for sharing comments on your holiday breakfast fixings :) I prepare our traditional Christmas brunch after gifts are opened---menu varies from year to year as the grandkids grow & tastes change. Hot chocolate is always a must, tho'
What do you eat for breakfast on holidays?
I like to start out with steaming hot mugs of spiced apple cider (make it in a big coffee urn) and hot cocoa with homemade marshmallows and homemade cinnamon rolls while we are opening gifts (BIG family event-around 25+ people). Then for the actual sit-down breakfast we have eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and grits-the whole Southern deal.
We don't eat until around 7 or 8 in the evening on Christmas day so I like to make a hearty breakfast. We eat earlier on Thanksgiving and New Years, so it's usually just homemade cinnamon rolls/yeast rolls and hot cider/cocoa for breakfast.
What do you eat for breakfast on holidays?
For Thanksgiving, usually some sort of homemade muffin with scrambled eggs, though one year I made mini quiches the day before instead of scrambled eggs. Always, I make hot spiced apple cider.
For Christmas, I've started making my own panettone, along with scrambled eggs and hot spiced apple cider.
What do you eat for breakfast on holidays?
I try to start the day virtuously, with my usual homemade fruit & yogurt shake with a few TBSP protein powder, telling myself it'll hold me til the Big Dinner Thing, but knowing deep in my heart that I am deluding myself.
When my relatives get together for holiday eating- and may I mention they're Polish - you can't get away with just a shake til dinner. These are people for whom the word "punczki" - (a jelly-filled donut) - is a personal term of endearment, which they utter while pinching your cheek with great affection.
What do you eat for breakfast on holidays?
On thanksgiving I don't eat breakfast because I know I am going to nosh all day on the food I am cooking for the main event.
But on Christmas, I eat normally. It's the breakfasts after Thanksgiving and Christmas that are my special breakfasts. I always have a big hunk of Pumpkin Pie or leftovers!
What do you eat for breakfast on holidays?
Angel biscuits, spicy sausage and hot chocolate for christmas breakfast.
What do you eat for breakfast on holidays?
Christmas morning has always been grapefruit halves with honey, scrambled eggs, toasted english muffins with butter and jam, panettone, bacon, and Kippers, or Scottish smoked herring steamed in a plastic bag, orange juice, tea and coffee. .This hasn't changed once for as long as I can remember and it's alway made in the morning, before any presents could be opened.
What do you eat for breakfast on holidays?
My family has a giant cinnamon bun tradition on Christmas morning, if that's the kind of holiday you mean. I'm also partial to "banana split waffles" on vacation. They actually don't have ice cream. But they do have a lot of whipped cream and chocolate sauce.
Best food and beverage pairings?
Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla & Coca-Cola! Mmmmmmmm.
Best food and beverage pairings?
YAY! someone else who dips fries in a milkshake. mmmm salty sweet fatty goodness. cold meets hot in perfect harmony.
Where to eat in Dallas, Texas?
Dallas has the best steakhouses in the country and I mean NYC, SF, Kansas City, Chicago, or name another city, but Dallas is THE place. Be a Texan--eat red meat and start at Three Forks, or Sullivan's on the tollway north of Loop 635 or Bob's Chop House and Del Frisco's are all fabulous and have great wine lists. For a tasting menu or prie fixe try Bijoux's in the center at Lovers and Inwood. For named chefs, try Dean Fearings' or Stephen Pyles' restaurants. For Barbeque, go to Shady Oaks on 75 at Park or Parker (they are successive exits) which is north of where the George Bush Freeway intersects with 75. For really good raw or fried oysters and other seafood, try S&D Oyster Co. (very casual). For killer fried chicken, it's Bubba's across from SMU (walk up service). For Italian Mi Piacci or Patrizio's are good by Dallas standards. For Tex-Mex Ojeda's has good food and for a chain, El Fenix has pretty decent cheese enchilidas.
Are there any foods you're ashamed to love?
*whipers* SPAM. Oh man, I love that stuff, but am so embarrased to buy at the store. I fry it till crisp on the outside, and eat it with rice, eggs with still-runny-yolks, and chopped tomatoes on the side. I mix it all together in a large bowl and eat (a spoon as the preferrred instrument) in front of the TV.
Are there any foods you're ashamed to love?
-Another vote for Kraft Mac n' Cheese :-)
-Ramen noodles topped off with Hunt's (ALWAYS!) tomato sauce and a ridiculous amount of powdered parmesan cheese
-The Castle
Are there any foods you're ashamed to love?
I will have to say Vienna Sausages in that disgusting jelly. I have been so ashamed of my love for them I haven't bought or eaten them since jr. high...that is true shame.
