Chain Reaction: California Pizza Kitchen

mm, I was born, raised, and still live in California, and I definitely still go to CPK on occasion (it happened more frequently in college). I am a true pizza lover, and not just of "nicer" pizzas like cheeseboard, but also crappy pizza like dominoes. I don't discriminate with pizza. That said, I think CPK's mushroom pizza is delicious (altho obvi not as delicious as the award-winning for the the love of mushroom pizza from mulberry street in san rafael). Unfortunately, CPK discontinued their Peking duck pizza about 6 years ago - major disappointment since it was one of my faves. Can't wait to try this new carnitas habanero offering!

Anthony Bourdain's Paula Deen Diss

A bit unwarranted, but great publicity for them.

However, defending PD by saying she is no different than fast food chains is no defense at all. So now we're approving the lowest common denominator? Call me crazy, but I'm not so sure it's a good thing that her food is just as unhealthy as McDonald's, contributing to obesity. You're right, we do have a choice in what we eat. Unfortunately, she is endorsing the wrong choice, and most people don't make the right choice :(

yum, i ate this 2 days ago! except I got it on one of their rolls (bc 10 min prior I had bought 2 loaves of onion focaccia from liguria bakery), and added their basil sauce and pepperonccini. delish! but have to say i did not have the stamina to finish the massive sammie in on sitting.

San Francisco: A Flavor Tour of Dynamo Donuts

"Aside from the chocolate versions, which border on fudgy and dense, the doughnuts themselves are remarkably light"
really?? I've had pretty much every single doughnut they offer, and I would not describe a single one as light - in fact, these are probably the densest doughnuts I've ever tried. That's not to say they aren't good, just a very inaccurate description of their density.

36 Hours in New Orleans: Where to Eat

MMM I love Cafe Du Monde. The complimentary cornbread at Jacques Imo's is the best, there's a delicious crabmeat cheesecake from the Palace Cafe, and my brother's (soon-to-be Tulane alum) favorite restaurant is Irene's.

Is 'Eat Pray Love' a Foodie Movie?

@nwcajun - you are not wrong. the author of this book was actually paid in advance to write about this journey of "self discovery". what you're saying about having the bank is what some critics call "priv-lit", and i would have to agree.

Is 'Eat Pray Love' a Foodie Movie?

If it's good gelato you're looking for, the best is not in Rome, it's in San Gimignano in Tuscany. It actually proclaims to be the best ice cream in the WORLD, and i would wholeheartedly support that claim (award?). And the best focaccia and pesto are in Cinque Terre, fyi.

How to Make a Spanish Tortilla

i also put the plate on top before flipping! i like to wait for the potatoes to become soft before adding the onions as well. there's a tapas place in madrid that uses caramelized onions, and needless to say they are known for their tortilla. delicious! altho here in the states i find it hard to excuse using that much olive oil so the last time i made tortilla i used part olive oil part bacon fat. it didn't work out well, i do NOT recommend it hahaha.

The United States of Pizza: Where to Eat Pizza in California (Part 1, Northern California)

Mulberry Street Pizza!!! (it's in San Rafael - aka Marin - aka the North Bay). Their regular pizzas are good, but it's the "For the Love of Mushroom" pizza that's worth mentioning. If you like mushrooms, if you like pizza, and if you like yourself, then this is definitely THE pie to try.

Also, Nizario's on Geary is worth a shout-out. Good place to go if you find yourself on geary after having a drink. Pizza orgasmica, also good.

And cheeseboard is definitely a favorite. Also next door, at their bakery, they make a delicious cherry cornbread scone!!
