The Tastiest Streets in the U.S.

Fremont Ave North? REALLY? Jai Thai and Blue C are kind of... meh.

That is one of the least tastiest streets in town! University Way NE, NW Market Street, and any street in the International District... all better food streets. And those are just for cheaper eats....

VIVACE!! I'm with unarata on that one. Best in town, hands down. slashchef, it sounds like your Ladro drink is probably a knockoff (I say only because I am a viciously loyal Vivace drinker, not because I have any proof) of Vivace's Cafe Nico. So so good.... Ladro is my go to on 15th though. Victrola's vibe is weird.

I Am a Host at the Olive Garden

Oh gawd, I read this strip about six months ago and died a little every second. I used to be a hostess at Red Lobster (sister restaurant), and that comic is pretty dead on.

As for the racial thing, I understand the discomfort, but since this is based on that guys actual years of working at Olive Garden, it doesn't bother me. He probably just didn't think twice about it - assuming that the customer was actually black. But hey, it's complicated, and I'm not the artist. ::shrug::

Damn good strip, though.

What's Your Favorite Thanksgiving Food?

Really, its F. Mac n Cheese, because it's the only time I allow myself to bake a huge-ass dish of homemade deliciousness. But I'll also have to go with the stuffing, but I grew up on boxed food, so it *has* to be stove top, though I pimp it out with some fresh veggies and some turkey.

My Macaroni & Cheese Collection is Unstoppable

Where did this guy live? Reading Frenzy bookstore in Portland, OR has a rather expansive box collection on it's walls. I'm not positive they were there last year when I visited, and this list seems pretty similar. Perhaps he donated them!?

Healthy Deep-Fried Oreos: Could It Be?

I honestly don't think that people really think they are "healthier" per se, but just you know, an eensy bit less likely TO KILL YOOOOOOOOOU. Or something. I don't know, it will probably taste the same either way, so it can't hurt to change the cooking oil, right?

Cook the Book: 'Vegetable Harvest'

I live in an apartment, so no garden for me just yet. But certainly the first thing I would plant would be MIRACLE FRUIT. Because it's amazing, hard to find, hard to grow, and I finally found a place to buy seeds. Then mint, for drinks and ice cream, and crushing in my hand to remind me of my grandpa, and tomatoes, of course.

In Chongqing. I recent ate at a hot pot restaurant called Zhu's Fagty Rot Hot-Tot. I have the napkin to prove it. What is this: a restaurant for gay pedophiles?

Singapore Bistro on 19th and L in Washington DC has the name right but if you look closely the sign below reads "Asian Cousin". Awesome!

And in Hilton Head, South Carolina somewhere I remember seeing a restaurant called Mexician Grill. We still laugh at that one!

There's a Chinese restaurant here in Portland, OR called Hung Far Low. I have no idea why.

There used to be a place called Takee Outee in the French Quarter. There was one right up the street from Pat O's. The eggrolls were huge, delicious and exactly what we needed after a few Hurricanes. Good times.

Best Non-Starbucks Seattle Coffeeshops

I've seen lots of comments on which coffee house is best.

I've been enjoying Espresso in seattle for a very long time now. I started drinking espresso at (does someone else remember?) The Last Exit at it's original location on Brooklyn, which was in the early 80's.

I've been to nearly every coffee shop at one time or another. Ironically, the one I've avoided, because I felt it took itself to seriously, was Espresso Vivace. My friends would keep bugging me, you've got to try Vivace and I would say, but how could it be better than _____. I recently read Espresso Coffee: Professional Techniques, which is the Bible for anyone considering opening an Espresso Shop, and decided I had to try it.

I am now ruined. When I go back to my old standards, all I can do is bitch, "It's too bitter", "It's too flat.", "It tastes burnt, etc." I'm not saying no one else can make a decent espresso, but I've never had a bad espresso at Vivace, period. They are the pinnacle as far as I'm concerned.

Yay! Nolensville Road! The only thing that would have made it better would be mentioning the international market and all the excellent taco stands.

Yeah Roosevelt Ave.!

Sorry, felt the need to insert the obligatory NY arrogance. In all seriousness, it's definitely deserving of the mention, but Mott Street should be on there as well; I haven't been to most of the others mentioned in the comments, but I've heard amazing things about Ann Arbor, Michigan.

A bizarre list in a host of ways. Seems to me, by the time you'd named the first seven, you might not even have left NYC yet. From there it's not awfully likely your next target would be, uh, Houston. As for Seattle's Fremont Ave. (which I can see from my house), anyone who'd include it on this list just ain't been around much.

Yeah, the praise for Fremont seemed to exist simply to praise Paseo. Don't get me wrong, Paseo deserves the love, but Fremont isn't even close to the tastiest street in Seattle. My vote would probably go to 1st Ave, or even Pike Pl.

Buford Hwy in Atlanta is probably the tastiest street I've ever visited personally.

NYC number one, Houston number two, that's refreshing.
Although I probably would have gone for Bellaire Blvd., Houston, myself.

Eat This, Not That: The Worst Foods in America

One thing: calories are not created equal. You said "the ham, egg, and cheese on an English muffin (310 calories) is a better bet than the multigrain bagel with light cream cheese (500 calories)."

I'm pretty sure that's a white english muffin(no Dunkin Donuts here, correct me if that's wrong). Plus the saturated fat.... The bagel may not be a fantastic breakfast, but it's got fibre. I'd say it might be worth the extra calories.

Yes, we are all amazed at the success of a book that seems so obvious. Yet, is it really that obvious? Maybe to those of us who read and write on this particular website. But is it obvious to the main stream public who for some reason or other, love to eat at McDonald's? I mean, McDonald's is still in business and thriving! People are eating there regularly, but can't figure out why they are overweight.

I guess the success of this book proves that the obvious, isn't so obvious.

And frankly, it doesn't bother me one bit that what seems like such a waste of paper is a huge success. Maybe we are just upset that we didn't think of writing this book first!

Eat This, Not That: The Worst Foods in America

"Chipotle has some fine tasting food, but I believe it is owned by McDonald's corp.,"

Basically McDonalds just funded a bunch of money and chain-expanding knowhow to Chipotle to get them started. There was a good article in Time or some other similar magazine about it. They never really influenced the food side of the business, which has always been about fresh ingredients cooked in-store.

You can cut that 1000 calorie burrito down a whole lot by leaving off the sour cream and the tortilla. The chipotlefan website has a nice calculator for figuring out what each topping "costs" in calories.

I don't eat at Chipotle much anymore since my office moved next to a great Cuban restaurant and a locally owned burrito shop with similar quality just opened closer to my house.

Eat This, Not That: The Worst Foods in America

All practical considerations aside, the book just may have its uses in the fight against fatness simply because of its design. It is small, cute, and strong (not the words or information, but the book itself).

I can see it being purchased and carried about as if it were a powerful rune to be used more as a ritual than as a source of information. Pull it out, put it on the table, and the fear will come upon one. The Right Thing will be ordered simply because the book is there glaring at everyone in sight, saying "Eat This, Not That".

The ability to restrain oneself often has more to do with emotions than facts.
