The Salty Dog Cafe in Sea Pines is the place that everyone goes to and leaves with a t-shirt, and the Crazy Crab is good for seafood.
Seriously, you can't go five feet anywhere in the Carolinas without seeing one of those tshirts. I remember the food as been very mediocre, but the area is nice (they have a lighthouse!) and it's an island institution.
for authentic Lowcountry food, try the mainland in Bluffton (Bluffton Oyster Co., right on the May River, or Pepper's Porch).
i have to say i do love ramen!
I also defrost in warm water...much quicker than room temperature and I despise defrosting in the microwave. Frozen herb cubes from trader joe's are great, too! I can never use up those bunches of herbs before they get all gross and slimy.
i tried this last night, cutting everything in half, since i was just cooking for one...i've always been a little afraid of dishes where you have to incorporate egg carefully to prevent scrambling, but it worked like a charm! Creamy, great meaty flavor from the bacon, and the leeks are a great addition. I'll definitely be adding this to my meal repertoire! Looks fancier than it is, too!
It's a tie between a yummy roast ham and those egg-shaped Reese's with all that extra peanut butter!
a perfectly roasted chicken with lots of garlic and french roasting herbs, mashed potatoes and fried okra!
Being a Southern girl, I once decided I would try to make fried chicken the real, old fashioned way. I was following a time-consuming Southern Living ultimate recipe that included marinating in buttermilk, dredging, letting the pieces rest again, and then frying them up in batches.
And after the entire day spent with that chicken, it still didn't taste like Grandma's!
Mom for the basic techniques, and now i'm learning as i go along with experiments and recipes from lovely food blogs/magazines
Alcoholic- margaritas hands down (fresh limes though)
Non Alcoholic- iced tea
Gin and tonics are my favorite for something cool to drink while sitting on my patio.
Mint juleps! Forget mojitos, I prefer this classic work of art in bourbon, mint, sugar and ice - the perfect compliment to relaxing on a porch swing or rocker.
Give me a refreshing Gordon's Cup made with cucumber and limes - you can add a splash of Midori for extra pizazz!
I love a Sea Breeze - vodka, cranberry juice, and a squeeze of fresh lime. Ahhh!
Cherry limeade, made with club soda and not plain water. Fizzy and fresh and cold, it hits all the right spots.
for me its gotta be lemonaide or a margarita...yum!
i love tea and cranberry juice.... but, omg, the root beer floats post really zings... and lime sherbert with ginger ale!!
