In Videos: How to Make Small Batch Strawberry Jam
I make my jam in pretty much the same way, but never, ever, have I heard of anyone putting jam into a hotwater bath! Between clean jars, sugar, and lemon juice, it's unusual to have any problem with mold or spoilage.

What a surprise! I just made four jars of new strawberry jam this morning!

Cook the Book: 'Seven Fires'
Man oh man, that Peached Pork w/rosemary sounds AMAZING! More, more! This is a food area I'm sadly unaware of - til now.

Potato-Broccoli-Cheddar Soup, Without a Lot of Milk?
I would steam/simmer broc florets in small pan, cook the potatoes with herbs in chicken stock in another pot, then use immersion blender to puree the potatoes. Drain broccoli well, toss with a little butter or oil and maybe some dill, and place in the middle of the now pureed potato soup. Hopefully, they won't sink. Top with fresh cracked pepper and a few sprinklings of cheese - but pass a bowl of shredded cheese to all for additional cheesy taste. Actually, you could cook the peeled broccoli stems in with the potatoes, now that I think about it.
Weird Trendy Food Lighting
I gave up my Gourmet subscribtion because the lighting was so dark and unappealing - it seemed to be directed for a noir film - not focussed, stubble-bearded cute guys, cracked china. Ugh. Guys, I'm here for the FOOD - and that means light, light, light.
Weekend Book Giveaway: 'American Cheeses'
I'll eat any cheese, pretty much, from anywhere. I like to browse the cheese counter at the Brattleboro, VT Food Co-op, pick a cheese from a small farm, and nibble it up. One outstanding cheese, whose name I never wrote down, was an incredible sheep's milk gouda, but really, I love them all.
Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Southside Market Sausage
I'm a Redbones fan, too! Love the art on the walls, love the food, even if I just drink the lemonade!
Dinner Tonight: Leek and Potato Soup
Leek and potato soup without dill and thyme?
Serious Cookies: Shuna Fish Lydon's Shortbread
Fantastic! Thank you for the recipe - can you imagine this with lemon verbena or lemon balm? Oh yum!

I WON A KITCHEN AID. Now, what do I do with it?
Uh, give it to me! My 25 year old Kitchenaid is on its fifth paddle - I'm a baker and can't imagine life without my Kitchenaid. You can: whip mashed potatoes, make cupcakes/muffins/cookies/cakes, make homemade boursin, sweet potato pie, gougeres, cream puffs....well, you get the picture. I've never used the sausage attachment, but if I can find it, I might give homemade linguica a shot.
Congratulations! You'll never, ever, give it up, and if it dies, you'll be shocked and adrift.

Christmas recipes
How pretty! If I have your patience, I'd love to try this for the Christmas tree decorations! Just beautiful.
Cook the Book: 'Baked, New Frontiers in Baking'
To be honest, I don't remember - a multitude of parents and a dizzying number of places lived - but I do remember the cherry Sno-cones at a carnival in Mississippi, adoring the twinkle lights and being allowed to stay up late. When I was 16, I arrived in New York City, and fell in love with eclairs at a French pastry shop - now that was bliss, my friend!
T-Giving Turkey Soup...What's yours like?
Loads of herbs - rosemary, parsley, and thyme - a little jasmine rice, baby carrots, a handful of celery, turkey, and salt and freshly cracked pepper . Simple, satisfying, and oh my delicious.
Feeding the crowd on a budget
You did fantastic! The ham idea sounds great, too..............
Help! Thanksgiving Appetizer
Love gougeres! I have a recipe on my blog if you want to take a look....I love that crazy 80's app - canned or fresh, blanched asparagus, Pepperidge Farm thin sliced white bread rolled with a rolling pin, smear with mayo and/or guacamole, pepper - lots of pepper! - and some fresh dill - roll up the asparagus and voila!
Herb cheese ( recipe again, on blog -or use Boursin, but I like the herb cheese better) ( cheaper, too) on nice french bread with raw veggies and ripe pears....delicious and not too filling.
Little squares of quiche with fruit - and those figs & honey sound wonderful!
turkey with cheesecloth
I always soak cheesecloth in melted butter and tuck in the bird. I still baste it, but remove the cheesecloth for the last half hour - it always comes out beautifully browned and moist.
What is on your Christmas List?
a new Kitchenaid mixer paddle ( jeeezzz - this is the 4th one!) because my last one is peeling again
14 cookbooks on my Amazon list
a bubble tea set for my daughter
Yummy side dishes?
Our favorites include caramelized, sauteed chunks of sweet potato and butternut squash with rosemary, quick saute of Martha's brussels sprouts - trim off the root and peel off the leaves, then saute with a little butter and garlic - and, of course, whipped, mashed potatoes with butter and chiles, or dill and butter with a little hot milk. Lots of pepper goes without saying.......
Arugula a good green for my seared scallops?
I would leave it fresh and crunchy - maybe with a citrus accent of grapefruit or orange, but not necessary, I think.
Another possible? Arugula pesto on the scallops.

Look, all of us want more blog traffic, and there is no way we can read all of our collective blogs, but we should really make an effort to check out at least other 5 SE's blogs if we post our own in this thread --after all, not fair to 'shill' if you don't help others out!

So wonderful to have so many fellow writers! I actually have two blogs to share. One is my personal blog: www.thedilettantista.wordpress.com which covers, well, EVERYTHING, cooking, restaurants, movies, etc. I started it this summer when I was living in New York City for an internship, so it is especially heavy on NYC eating.
I am also a contributing writer to Carpe Durham, a food blog that focuses on eating in Durham, North Carolina. The blog was started a few years ago by Duke law students, and I am a newer writer. The blog is a great source if you live in the Triangle area!
