Serious Beer: The Best Pumpkin Ales
Hey Maggie -
Glad you rethought your rating of Southern Tier's Pumking. Sad you still don't seem to enjoy it but it shows you're thinking of the people! (I agree it was way too hoppy this year, but I've noticed a lot of my old faves are changing their recipes... c'est la vie Sam Summer.)
Fortunately we've found it at more of our local bodega's for a reasonable price and on-tap at places we hadn't even scouted beforehand!
Also tried Fire Island's out near it's homestead and they rimmed the glass with cinnamon sugar and pumpkin spices. Not sure if the bar was directed to do that by the brewer but it was a lovely added treat.
Viva la Pumpkin!!
Taste Test: Mustard
as I will repeat from my previous comment::
does anyone know of this Heinz french mustard? It's got the color and consistency of baby poop (I dunno guys... that was my memory as a 22-year-old drunk off of fish and chips) but not really spicy. I can't even find a similar product in America!
But yes, horseradish mustards RULE!
Can Pumpkin Beer Be Serious Beer?
if southern tier is known for their sweet, dessert replacing brews, then what's your beef? Last year, my friends and I did our own pumpkin beer tasting and Pumking was by far my favorite--then again I'm not much for lagers and hops, and I do love me some creme brulee. And obviously I'm not the only one, as it's practically sold out of NYC this year!
Altho happy I was able to score 3 bottles but I might have to intern at the company just to get in on the ground floor next year.
Bottle or draft - A+ Pumking!!
