'Georgia On My Thighs' Cooks Along with Paula Deen
as with all cook the book ideas, sounds fun. but this one sounds like book deal bait...and from someone who condescends to cook paula's recipes....boo! doesn't sound like there's any heart in it. her whole demeanor is objectionable. bummer.

Hot Dog Of The Week: Slaw Dog
Grew up in Huntington (home of the WV hot dog festival and hot dogs stands too numerous to mention) and the only thing I took with me when I left 11 years ago was my love of slaw on hot dogs. But as the author of wvhotdogblog.com notes, "I don't like the huge "slaw dog" label [in the artwork] because everyone knows that in West Virginia you don't ask for a "slaw dog" - you just get one" - amen!

Guy Fieri Eats The Hunch And I Can't Stop Thinking of Colin Farrell
i hate tgifridays and the lots just as much as most people that frequent serious eats. and guy fieri is eh. but hillbilly hot dogs is fabulous. and a local whole in the wall...not some monster chain restaurant. it, along with the other dozen or so hot dog restaurants in the greater huntington, wv area are gems and are one of the few reasons i go to my hometown at all.
Guac Bowl 2009 Winners

Fast-Food Oatmeal: The Good, the Bland, and the Goopy
I went to Jamba Juice yesterday and they were handing out free samples. I had the apple-cinnamon compote. It was delish! Great oat-y texture.

Serious Eats City Guide: Los Angeles
A) YaY for more LA content! THANK YOU!!! Maybe someday Serious Eats LA?
B) While S. Irene Virbila's reviews are pretty sound...she is the expert after all....She tends to miss the hole-in-the-wall places... and there are a lot of holes in this little write up.
C) Thanks for using one of my photos (but Triumphal Palace definitely wouldn't be my top choice for Chinese...)

How to Make Cheeseburgers From Jim's Steak & Spaghetti House
holy crap! so exciting to see h-town on aht! but i must say...i've never had a hamburger at jim's...never made it past their famous spaghetti. now i'll have to try it. and if you are going to huntington, definitely (DEFINITELY) do yourself a favor and have a hot dog tour. there are roughly 1 zillion hot dog stands in huntington.
Pie 'N Burger a Purely Californian Experience
yeah!!! so excited to see this post! definitely my favorite burger place in l.a...and probably anywhere! thanks for showing pie n burger some love!
ESPN's Todd Blackledge Visits the Apple Pan
while the apple pan is a lovely l.a. tradition, why didn't espn make a stop at pie n burger?! imho, it's the best burger spot in l.a. AND it's about 25 miles closer to the rose bowl.
'Top Chef' Alum Brings Burgers, Fedoras to Capitol Hill
didn't you just mention another burger place that does the "5 napkin" thing...geez...where's the originality! 4 napkins? a handful?
What's the Best Mexican Food Town in the U.S.?
i agree with condiment. how could you even consider anywhere other than L.A.?! there is no contest.
What's the Best Mexican Food Town in the U.S.?
This one is an absolute no brainer. I am a software programmer and fortunate enough to work for a company that allows me to work from home, I try my best to make a point of living in a different city every year, I pack light and go. I've gone from southern cali, mid-west to the east coast and NOTHING compares to the mexican food in San Diego! Travel just 60 miles up the coast to Los Angeles and the difference is night and day, doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same category. San Diego is on the border of Mexico, and the mexican food gets exponentially worse the farther you get from it. Ask anyone who has actually tried mexican food in mulitple cities, I will guarantee the same response, San Diego hands down. Anyone who calls them nachos instead of carne asada chips, or taquitos instead of rolled tacos can automatically be discredited in this discussion. Those of you who have lived in San Diego will know what I mean.
Hamburger America: Thurman Cafe in Columbus, Ohio
Some of the best burgers! Always very fresh, the meat is juicy and soft consistency...not dried out.
Fast-Food Oatmeal: The Good, the Bland, and the Goopy
the coupon expired in January...darnit.
Hot Dog Of The Week: Slaw Dog
I would love to buy these posters. I used to collect beer related items (cans, bottlecaps, coasters) but they just sit in my attic. These hot dog illustrations are a work of art that would look good on the wall.
Hot Dog Of The Week: Slaw Dog
Are the posters available for purchase yet? I want to hang these up in my room and have them seep into my dreams.
Hot Dog Of The Week: Slaw Dog
Jslander-
Yeah I struggled with whether to title it "slaw dog" or "west virginia hot dog" but I wanted to give respect to the non-WV slaw dogs while still giving a nod to West Virginia as the probable birthplace.
While I'm interested in authenticity in regional foods, I'm not necessarily against variations if it's done with respect - and if it tastes good! The way a lot of these hot dog styles have evolved is by vendors putting their own twist on things.
Also Martie's did offer plain hot dogs, and the WV dog was listed on the menu as a "Slaw Dog". This is in Northern WV, which is not slaw-mandatory territory according to wvhotdogs.com.
My mistake was ordering a "slaw dog with chili" and 5 minutes later I was presented with a hot dog (chili and slaw) and a big steaming bowl of chili. I guess no chili is not an option... not that I would want it to be..
hotdoglover-
Didn't ask what kind of dog they used. I would say it was similar to an all-beef kosher dog in flavor, but no natural casing or anything. It was decent but the garnish is definitely what made it unique and delicious.
sort of like what makes a good hoagie- the balance of the ingredients and how they work together is what does it for me.
Hot Dog Of The Week: Slaw Dog
I love hot dogs, and the BEST hot dogs are found in North Carolina. There are so many places with amazing hot dogs, and when you order "all the way" here in NC, it always comes with slaw, chili, onions, and mustard, served on a lightly buttered and toasted bun. My boyfriend and many others I know will only eat "pink hotdogs", which many of the places serve, but I like any hot dog.
Hot Dog Of The Week: Slaw Dog
Hawk,
Do you know what brand of dog was served at Marties? At the Hot Dog Hootenanny we had a Carolina Packers dog which most agreed was the worst sampled. Down South the focus is on the toppings; especially the slaw and chili, rather than on the dog itself. To me, if you start with a low quality dog, it doesn't matter much what you do to it. I've found that in states like New Jersey (where I'm from), New York, and Connecticut, the focus is much more likey to be on the frankfurter itself.
How to Make a Choco Taco
I just found found Klondike Choco Tacos at the grocery store. 99cents...of course I snagged one.
If you haven't guessed...I'm way too lazy to make them myself...very cool recipe though!
How to Make a Choco Taco
My daughter requested these for her birthday treat and I was so glad to find this recipe. However, I too was only able to get 6 shells from the recipe, so I had to double it. I am having trouble with the chocolate as well. Because of the 1 cup of water, it is so runny I can't top the tacos with it. I may end up with magic shell on the top or some fudge.
Pie 'N Burger a Purely Californian Experience
I like both Pie n'Burger and Apple Pan. Reviewer doesn't mention the pies at Pie n'Burger and it's just as well as they don't really compete with Apple Pan, even though the latter has only two varieties (apple and pecan).
As for the burgers themselves, it's a tough choice but I would give Apple Pan the edge again for a better built burger and more flavor. I don't understand the member who says they're 'sweet', an adjective that would never cross my mind when describing AP's burgers. I know that people who drink a lot of alcohol often find that most food tastes 'sweet' to them. I don't mean that as any kind of insult to the member, not saying he's an alkie or anything! Just that palates differ immensely according to culinary habits. I doubt *most* burger tasters would find AP burgers 'sweet.'
The comparison between Pn'B and In'O is apt, they remind me of one another a lot. I spend a lot more time in Pasadena than W LA but I consider Apple Pan more of a 'special' taste experience. Anyway they're both great!
How to Make a Choco Taco
Those look yummy! For those of you who don't want to make your own choco tacos and can't find them in the store, go for an ice cream drumstick. All of the same ingredients, just a different shape.
How to Make a Choco Taco

This just proves to me what I already suspected. Home Depot fucking ROCKS.
Hamburger America: Thurman Cafe in Columbus, Ohio
I grew up in Columbus and my family has been there decades and decades. I had never even heard of this place until I saw it on Man v. Food.

Use waxed paper over book "mold"? At least do something other than saying "It's too complicated"!
Hamburger America: Thurman Cafe in Columbus, Ohio
You know I go to Cbus all the time and I have been by there and wanted to try it but I heard they only cook it to medium-well and to me that is just overly cooking it and going to take the flavor away from the patty as well as moisture. Anybdoy tried it?
Hamburger America: Thurman Cafe in Columbus, Ohio
Total mainstay growing up in CBus. I'd love to make a return trip to Thurman's to see if their burgers measure up to memory!

OMG both burgers look so good, I am sitting here just drooling. lol

They stopped in this place on Man vs Food. The Thurmanator looked soooo good... TIWYF has a picture, http://thisiswhyyourefat.com/post/80297011/the-thurmanator-two-3-4-pound-beef-patties-under
Hamburger America: Thurman Cafe in Columbus, Ohio
The Thurman burger is hilarious, but completely impossible to eat. I took the ham home in a container, and made a ham sandwich out of it. The regular burgers, sans mounds of toppings, are actually delicious.
Hamburger America: Thurman Cafe in Columbus, Ohio
I miss Columbus!!! The Jaeger burger... and those soft pretzel bits. Amazing.
Hamburger America: Thurman Cafe in Columbus, Ohio
I was lucky enough to win this book and LOVE IT!
AND it comes with a DVD that is mouth-watering :)

Aha! This is the place with the Thurmanator...it's not on the menu I don't think.
