Chain Restaurant Burgers
Technically, this would probably qualify as fast food--but my choice would be In-n-Out

I am such a sucker for every sappy commercial out there--Peter making coffee for the family, the Coke polar bears, the Budweiser Clydesdales, every ad where families cook together and then there are the funny ads--Mikey, "Where's the Beef", the "Speecy, Spicy Meatball" and who could ever forget, " I can't believe I ate the whole thing". As for my personal dislikes...I agree with Rozilla and those horrid Carl's Jr., commercials and quite frankly, I think Ronald McDonald and the Burger King are just down right creepy.
OMG...I can't believe that Lisa is still on the show--much less in the top three. I am sad to see Antonia go, but in reality, she will be just fine--she has talent and class. As for Lisa---as much as I dislike her, she has become for me something akin to an accident on the freeway--now matter how much you want to look away you just can't--just waiting for the next whine and cheese moment. So telling was her comment to Blaise and Stephanie---you really have to have issues if you need to tell people to congratulate you--but as we all know, with Lisa it's all someone else's fault. Anyway, here is hoping Stephanie wins. I have been impressed with her all season.
First of all...what a great idea. Getting kids in the kitchen early can only be of service to the child and the parents. I have a 15 year old son who has been hanging with me in the kitchen since he was three. He now often acts as chef and me as sous chef. So some suggestions:
Smoothies---doesn't get much easier and the opportunities for creativity abound.
Spaghetti and meatballs.
Pizza.
Fruit kabobs with yogurt dipping sauce.
For fun--choc. chip cookies and choc. covered strawberries.
Quesadillas
Hope this helps.
So glad to see Spike go....he was just so smarmy and the hats were such an affectation. As for the final four..I am delighted to see Antonia in there...I had a feeling that Stephanie and Richard were going to the finals early on. As for Lisa...I just have a very visceral dislike for her. She is negative, nothing is ever her fault and she can't take criticism---if she can't stand the heat she should just get out of the kitchen. I am anxious to see what happens in the finale. Does anyone else have a massive craving for red meat?
I loved this challenge...especially with the kids helping to cook. I would make a sausage ragu with polenta, sauteed veggies (whatever was green and on sale)...for dessert a fresh fruit cup (even if just with bananas, apples or oranges) with frozen yogurt. You can really make a decent meal for $10.00...all it takes is a little thinking and planning. BTW I really did think Mark needed to go. He got a free pass on the tailgate show and he needed to step up and didn't. Who else is ready for Lisa to go next?
Leftovers...I always make enough to have leftovers, either as lunch or easy dinner on those nights when I have meetings, swim practice has gone longer than expected or I am just tired. Leftovers beat fast food any day
A Whole Foods opened practically in my backyard--while I would love to make it my go to store, it just isn't in the budget. I do shop there when I need something special or have not gotten to the local produce market. I always buy my fish there, because I know it's going to be fresh. I will buy meat there when we are able to indulge. I really love that I can buy small amounts of spices and bulk items as well.
Definitely the Cuisinart---and the big one. Mine is the small one (got it with a $100.00 gift certificate from Macy's 20 years ago) and I wish I had sprung for the larger one. I use it all the time.
Three days in SF, lucky you. Definitely give Bix a try. But also, Kuleto's, Aqua and the Slanted Door should be on the list. If you are looking to try a San Francisco tradition--Tadich Grill and Fior d'Italia and for sheer fun Caffe Sport.
Hi bessfour, I logged on to the Counter Burger website, and this looks like a winner. I live on the East Coast also, and hope one will be coming to the Central Fla area. If no one replies to your post, please give an update, thanks!
Don't see any mention of Counter Burger. We have one opening up in West Hartford and I understand it's the first on the East Coast. There was quite a buzz about this a few months ago...anyone eaten there?
Braum's isn't so much the Central US (I assume you mean like the Midwest?) as it is towards the south. When we drive from St. Louis to Dallas, one of our markers is how far north Braum's has moved. I believe theres now one in Springfield, MO, but until last year we didn't find them until the second half of Oklahoma.
And I vote for Steak 'n' Shake. Five Guys is good when it's good but a little inconsistent.
Houston's is by far the best chain restaurant burger around. The beef is excellent quality, and its always cooked perfectly
Ruby Tuesday's alpine swiss burger is really tasty, and I hate to admit it, but also fast-food chain, Dairy Queen's mushroom swiss grillburger, although it is very messy.
Best sit-down chain burger is at Houston's (if you live near one)...
Best fast-food chain burger is at In-N-Out (again, if you live near one)...
Flamers' - the best chain burger I've tasted ever.
Fuddruckers' (which they don't have in Philly)
5 Guys
In and Out Burger
Checkers
Burger King
God help me... I really, really like the Angus burger at Mickey D's. There. I said it.
Fuddruckers, Chilis, Red Robin, Ruby Tuesday, Cheddar's, and then Applebees in that order.
