Bizarre Foods: Andrew Zimmern Meets His Match in Thailand

Missed the episode, but great write-up! I probably wouldn't have been able to make it through anyway. I bet Zimmern is hating on his producer for that episode.

Didn't I see rice field rat in the menu at Sri Pra Phai not long ago? Haha. Just kidding.

@YvesPaul - You think so? I remember watching the Ethiopia episode, and Zimmern didn't particularly like the food but praised their generosity and hospitality.

@wilma - I don't see your logic.

Rhode Island Showdown: Coffee Milk Taste Test

@growler - Agreed. Plus, Momofuku Millk Bar's coffee milk is terrible...

My bf and I were in Providence several months ago and made sure to stock up on the coffee milk goodies. We actually bought the same three from some grocery store I don't remember, but I'm sure he would. Morning Glory tastes SO different and SO good. I believe we're rationing it...

best pho in nyc

sorry, but good pho doesn't exist in nyc. :(

Astoria: Best Yet Market, an Awesome, Awesome Grocery Store

I know this is old, but I used to live in Sunnyside, so I have to stick up for it.

@Saria - There's another Key Food on Skillman near 50th Street. It's much better than the one you're referring to. There's another grocery store on Greenpoint Ave. There are also a lot of small grocery stores/bodegas in the area. that sell good products. Plus, there's a SUPER Stop and Shop if you walk north on 48th street. I've saved a lot of money and have found what I needed walking up to there.

New Mexico Sopaipilla Roundup

New Mexico may be in the middle of nowhere, but the food (and scenery) is what would make me stay. Sopaipillas are ahh-mazing.

Large-Scale Enticing Food Smells

Subways. Every time I walk by one I can smell their bread or something. I don't know what it is, but I can get a whiff of it within a block away.

Animal Style Fries at In-N-Out Burger

Fail, what? No way.

I think a fair comparison for In-N-Out's animal style fries would be poutine, and clearly: animal fries > poutine. Anyday, anytime.

And really, if that picture looks unappetizing, then what about Burger King's Angry Whopper? That picture was clearly photoshopped, and I got indigestion just looking at it. That picture is like cheese, softcore food porn for me. Pun intended.

Chocolate/Peppermint Bark for a Diabetic

I'll have to look into Asher's. Thanks for the help!

Williams-Sonoma and Bialetti's New Hot Chocolate Maker

Funny this should be posted since a couple of days ago I commented:

Goofy kitchen appliances (please don't buy that for me!)

Has anyone seen those hot chocolate makers? It's like a blender that warms and mixes the milk (or water) and the hot chocolate powder mix. An old roommate had one, and it was loud, bulky, and took up too much space on the counter. Uh? What about a pot on the stove and your lazy bum stirring it every now and then?

Lamps Made Out of Utensils and Cups

The untensil lamp is cool, but I can see that red cup lamp at the next SigEp house party.

Photo of the Day: A True Ice Cream Sandwich

@missvenuz & HappyJack - I know what you guys are talking about. I saw that episode too, and I was surprised that he didn't like it after all the other questionable foods he's eaten.

In-N-Out 60th Anniversary Promotion a Hoax

Nuh-uh. No way. I'm a selfish Californian (transplanted to New York) who wants In-N-Out only in California (and parts of Nevada and Arizona). I'm sorry, but no. Nuh-uh. It just wouldn't be the same... I mean, at least they don't air national ads like that tease called Sonic.

'Why Does Sonic Advertise on TV When There's No Sonic Near Me?'

A better deal for them?! Bah! I'm sure they air them nationally just to tease me...

I'm not a big soda fan, but my bf loves Rubicon sodas. His birthday is coming up, and I'm on the search to find him some in NYC.

Good eats from Costco?

Yay! Costco! I was afraid they'd have a bad rep here, so I'm glad other people love it as much as I do.

Sweet. Filipino food represent.

Glad to see that this has made its way to SE. I've never really considered it as bacon though since I normally boil it when I seldom (and unfortunately) have it.

If you like tocino, then you have to try longanisa, which is like a chorizo.

Oh man, I'm hungry.

Chocolate/Peppermint Bark for a Diabetic

I was planning to make peppermint bark this Christmas because the oven at my house isn't working (another topic unto itself) and to give it as gifts.

My dad's diabetic, and I know he'll eat the stuff regardless, so I'm trying to think of a way to lower the sugar content in the stuff without him really noticing. I know I don't actually add sugar to the recipe, but does anyone have any suggestions? Type of chocolate to use? Candy canes?

Thanks!
