so i printed this list and tried to do an all-donut weekend on sat and sunday of this weekend... and I treked all around the city and was terribly disappointed. my first stop was donut plant, which as always was amazing, and that was the only donut place where i actually got donuts- but i don't want to jump ahead. my next stop was Shopsin, which is very close to donut plant, unfortunately the whole place stops serving (anything) sometime between 2 & 3, so we were turned away. next stop, Abraco's Ricotta Fritters. when we got there, i didn't see much of a food setup so I asked the guy behind the counter "do you have donuts", and he replied "we don't turn on the fryer until it's cold". to which i replied, "when is that", and he said "when it's cold". now, i am not sure if that means nighttime or feburary, but what i can tell you is that they don't have donuts on november 8th, at 3:30. After those 2 failures (in the rain), I decided to hold off on donuts until the next day.
i woke up on sunday all rejuvenated and ready to have the best custard and jam donut, so i made my way up to Bouchon Bakery, found the take-out area in the mall, waited in a substantial line, got to the front of the line and found out that they only make donuts on saturday!!!
at that point i gave up, and ate a pastry (which was amazing), and went home.
so everyone should be aware- that while these may be the best donuts in nyc, they are the restrictive and elite food establishments in the city. don't get your hopes up, because you probably won't be able to eat any of them :)
