Chocolate-Covered Bacon for Breakfast
At my mom and stepdad's, everyone fights over the candied thick-cut bacon that's put out with holiday meals. At first taste, it's a little odd, but it grows on you.

We love the Hot Dog Program! I had no idea that there was so much geographic hot dog diversity.
Tony Packo's in Toledo, Ohio, offers their original pickles and peppers deep fried, with an assortment of dips (ranch, salsa, or spicy ketchup). The pickles are a spicy dill, but personally, I'd rather eat the fried pepper pieces and leave the fried pickles to my dinner companions!
Almost as good as the periodic tables of the veggies and fruits/nuts that I have hanging in my kitchen!
I like "Beet this Burger" - an oat-based burger w/ beets for color, not taste. You can find the recipe here: http://www.johnrussell.name/recipes/burgers.htm. I have to admit that I haven't been able to get them to stay in a burger-sized patty, so I make little ones in a pan with a little oil, then eat them tucked in a pita or without bread.
In some parts of the country, you need to be careful when ordering BCP. Here in Toledo, Ohio, Smuckers Pie Kitchen makes a BCP that is more like a stiff banana custard with merengue. Quite a shock when one is expecting pudding and whipped cream!
Meatloaf...plus you can make them the right size for the family.
wings and Cool Ranch Doritos (about the only time of the year I eat Doritos...)
When I was at Ohio State (late 1980's), one of everyone's favorite dining hall suppers was Texas Straw Hat: a handful of Fritos, a scoop of taco meat and a trip to the topping bar: cheese, sour cream, onions, salsa, taco sauce, etc.
For vegetarians, this works with TVP crumbles seasoned with taco seasoning, though RDH never offered a vegetarian option for Straw Hat when I was there.
The best fried pickles i've had come from Muddy River BBQ in Portsmouth, NH! They use a beer batter that's amazing, the pickles have a nice sour taste and they serve them with a delicious spicy dipping sauce, YUM!
they also have a Muddy River BBQ in Maine as well for all you north east vacationers and foodies!
I live in Santa Cruz and I think I'll have to go downtown this week and see if they still have this. I just tried the Vosges bacon bar and it is wonderful.
In Florida -- the Gator's Dockside in Lake Mary, FL, just added a basked of fried kosher dills to their menu. They were about 2-inch rounds, between 1/8 and 1/4 inch thick, fried quickly in a flavorful batter and still crisp inside, served with a cup of ranch dressing. We really enjoyed them, even if they sat a bit heavy afterward. But they were the highlight of the meal, and went wonderful with a pitcher of Yuengling...the dill flavor lasted quite a while on the palate.
Gator's Dockside also has EXCELLENT chicken wings, cooked dry-fried, batter-fried, or grilled, and tossed in a variety of sauces. Service is par for the course for a neighborhood sports bar.
Cambridge 1 in Harvard Square is owned by the same people and has a similar ambience... and it also serves Brooklyn Lager on tap. It doesn't have the science gimmick, though.
Yes, if only Harvard Square had a place like Miracle of Science...it's the perfect spot for watching the Red Sox and eating a surprisingly good meal, if you can snag a table.
oooh, that reminds me... i have a pan of christmas stuffing in the freezer! chestnuts, sausage, and pecans!
Angie_Earthy, what a great idea using the deviled egg container for the shells. I never use it for actual deviled eggs anymore. It would work for anything that you want to individually scoop. Perfect!
