I just adore macarons. In fact, whenever someone goes to France, I beg beg BEG them to bring them back fresh. Also... when I went to Laduree in the UES for the first time, I spent $70.... I couldn't resist temptation.

Other than that, I have a major addiction to baklava!

Hugs and tears for your loss. That was an absolutely beautiful tribute. Thank you for sharing him. I loved surfing through the pages in anticipation of seeing Dumpling photos and reading about his adventures. I was always jealous of everyone at Serious Eats HQ. Dumpling will be sorely missed.

I'm going to be cooking for my cousins plus a bunch of people who aren't able to make it home this Christmas Eve (including a guy from Hawaii and one from France/Congo)! Thinking honey baked ham, plenty of traditional sides (mashed sweet potatoes! yumyum!) and A LOT of sweets! Other than that, gonna practice cooking while I have some time off!

Wow, seeing the photo of the Russ & Daughter's spread... anything with lox!!! Especially H&H's lox spread on a toasted everything bagel!!

I have this old worn cookbook in Chinese that was my mother's first cookbook when she started out (and had a one-time stint as a chef). I love how it was passed down to me and all the pages have markings of how to improve the recipes! It's an inspiration to want to learn to cook like my mother :)

I went to Tokyo as part of a class to do research. After wandering around for a bit, we ended up in a an izakaya in Roppongi. In our group of 6, I was the only asian.

Although I'm not Japanese, fortunately, I was a Japanese major. This apparently meant nothing. My "Japanese" (if anyone could even call it Japanese) had proven to be completely useless on this trip -- in particular -- at this izakaya.

We successfully got a table but when the waiter came to take our order, we weren't ready. Of course, I break out the butchered Japanese and tell them to give us a minute. The waiter totally misunderstood and brought another waiter to come help. I tried telling them to give us another minute, and two more waiters came to our table.

Four Japanese waiters staring at our table dumbfounded as we were STILL trying to sort out what we wanted. I think they got a huge kick out of the asian girl trying to speak Japanese, completely failing yet they still stared so innocently at me without laughing.
